I recently was added to your list, but I haven't recieved any messages. Just checking to see if I'm really on it. I am researching Herbert LeRoy Wood born abt. 1867 in Appleton Outagamie Wisconsin. He was a son of Harrison LeRoy Wood and Ellen DeForrest. Family history says that he was orphaned around 1880-1882. He was the oldest son and was left alone while the younger siblings were divided between family and friends. I can't find the family on any census in Wisconsin in 1870 or 80 so I don't know where they were living when he was orphaned. I suppose they could have been in any state. Do any of these names sound familiar? lequia@elite.net
Hi Gang, Does anyone know of Dr. Owen Shelby Woods from Izard County. He was born Fulton, KY in 1870. Lived in Violet Hill as a child. His parents lived at Lacrosse, Izard County. Then they moved to a farm at (cut off in obit) Oxford. He first married Mary STAGGS at Salem, AR. His wife, Mary Francis SHERRILL b. Salem, AR in 1880 first married David Green STAGGS. After the deaths of their spouses they married each other. Dr. Owen Shelby Woods' daughter married Ben Brown. A son, Thomas J. Woods became a doctor. One of the daughters was Mrs.Ethel BENBROOK. I am still trying to connect my Amanda Charlotte Wood(s) and brother Thomas in here somewhere. Also her second son was named Alfred SHELBY HARWELL. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks. I found out something very interesting today and thought I should pass it on as research in OK can be very frustrating if you don't know the ins and outs of the Twin Territories. If people were married, born or died in the old Indian Territory, you will probably only find their records in two places - the federal courthouse in Muskogee, OK and the OK Gnenealogical Society in Oklahoma City. The various tribal headquarters can guide you on what is where, but if your folks were white settlers in the IT, you need to check these two places first, the tribes probably won't have them. The records are the same -the difference is accessibility and cost of accession. You will NOT find any pre-statehood records in the modern county archives as these counties did not exist prior to 1907. There ARE county records earlier than that date for the Oklahoma Territory and the two should not be confused. It will really be worth your time to look at the Twin Territories page on OKGenWeb. It is a terrific resource and will help you see where you are looking and what you are looking for. I can help with a limited number of lookups for OK, including the IT and ok (remember the illegal whites in IT were enumerated on Yell County, AR prior to 1890). The Tulsa library is wonderful and I will do what I can for you. That being said, I'm a little slow because I have other commitments that must come before my research - husband, kids, job, you know the kinds of things that take our time! - but I will eventually get to it. If you are looking for information on the 1900 IT census, that is forthcoming, just be patient with me please. It is a monster job. The first partial roll of the old Choctaw Nation has taken 7 hours so far and it is only part of a roll and there are three more for the Choctaw Nation. That tells you what we are up against. Happy hunting. Susan Wood Reynolds, Owasso, OK.

Hello, all. I now have all the entries for Wood, Woods, et all ranscribe, in alphabeticall order and posted to a nice neat little chart. I don't have my website built yet, but if you would like a copy, let me know and I will send it to you as an attachment. It is in Miscrosoft Word. Please keep in mind that this census covered only the original seven counties of the OK Territory - Beaver, Canadian, Cleveland, Kingfisher, Logan, Oklahoma, Payne. If you are looking for Indian Territory information, you won't find it here. That's my next big project. However, some of your folks may have been in OK Territory at the time of the census and you may not know it - I just found one like that. Good luck and happy time travels! Hello, I accidentally deleted an e mail message to the Woods mailing list. It was a man who had found his Wood family in Scotland. Would the person that sent the e mail please contact me at: CEDJWOOD@PRODIGY.NET Thanks! DeLora Wood
Looking for siblings of my ancestor who was orphaned about 1880. Until this week we believed he had been orphaned in Wisconsin or Missouri, but now believe the family was located elsewhere at the time of the parents death. If you have Wood or Woods ancestors who were orphaned around 1880? please contact me. Here is what I know about my ancestor Herbert LeRoy Wood/Woods: born in Appleton, Wisconsin in 1866 or 1867. Nor birth record exists. His parents are believed to be a Harrison LeRoy Wood/Woods from either Wisconsin or more likely NY. I can find a LeRoy H. Wood/Woods age 17 living with a Wickman family and working on a farm in 1860 in Appleton. This might possibly be Herbert's father prior to marrying Herbert's mother and having a family. This LeRoy H. Wood was from NY. No record of a marriage between the parents exists. By 1880 Herbert was age 14, and living alone somewhere??? I know by 1886 he was in Missouri with a wife and child. I can not find Herbert on ! any census anywhere in the U.S. until 1900 when he was working in Arkansas-Cleveland Co. and living with his wife and child. The census states that Herbert's father was born in NY and his mother in Maine, however in 1944 when Herbert died his death certificate said the father was from Wisconsin and the mother from RI. I am hoping to locate people with Wood/Woods ancestry whose ancestors may have been orphaned in 1880. Perhaps if I can find someone else with a similar orphan story, I might locate the whereabouts of my Wood/Woods family between 1867 and 1880. Please contact lequia@elite.net if you have any suggestions or think you might somehow connect. Any clues at all would be most apprectiated. Thanks.
I have recently come across a will written in 1840 and filed in Hickman Co., KY in 1843 for a Robert Woods, a resident of Davidson Co., TN. Bros- Joseph, Andrew, & James Sis- Maria West, ___Walker,&___Trabue Children- Josephine, James, Jane, Robert, Robena, Joseph, & Julia In addition there are several nieces and nephews and others named. I have a Mary Barclay married to a James Wood in Auchterless. They are both buried in Auchterless. Seeking their descendants. See my Site at http://homepage.tinet.ie/~decfam Declan Chalmers
Hello List This may be a little off topic, but I was wondering if there were any professional Genealogist/Genealogical consultants out there. I was wondering how I might become certified, and "Hang out my shingle". I have recently left my "corporate" job, and my wife (Thank God for her) is urging me to pursue the less conventional, to find something I really love, and make a living with that. I would love any suggestions from anyone who is, has, or has dreamed, of anything similar... Thanks Tom

Hi, My recent problems with email have pointed out a problem that I would like to solve. During the last week my email to email.com was bouncing. During that time one of my lists was put up for adoption by the rootsweb staff to anyone who thought they wanted it. This would not be a good thing to happen to the list members. Two of my lists already have a process in place to handle such a problem; I'd like to apply that process to the rest of my lists. I would like to create a team to administer for each list. The team of administrators could handle problems when they arise. This is a request for volunteers (NOTE: for those lists that already have the process, this is just a request for other list members to participate). The administration tasks are generally not difficult, but you must be able to tolerate getting more email messages, be dedicated to the task of administering the list and get your mail regularly. Generally for each message that goes through the list you will receive 3 additional messages caused by folks who have full mailboxes, or have changed their email address and not removed their old address from the list, or in the case of my email last week, I was just having email problems. Most of the time you don't have to do anything except read the error messages or help someone who is having problems, or add someone to the listÂ… If you are interested in helping, send a message with a specific subject form. The subject must be in this form or I will not recognize it as a volunteer message. The subject form is: LISTNAME, "Administrator team volunteer" <followed by your email address> Of course replace "LISTNAME" with the list you are interested in helping with, and <followed by your email address> with your email address. In the body let me know why you want to help or what you can do to help. NOTE: in an emergency and you get no reply from me at cjl@tir.com please send a message to my wife at sharonjol@tir.com and she will either tell you what my problem is or forward your message to me.. Thanx, Chris
