Does anyone have any information on Wood or Woods children who were orphaned around 1880. I have a Wood/Woods ancestor whose parents died around 1880. His siblings were divided up to family and friends. I wish I knew where he was living at the time of his parents death, but I don't have a clue. I originally thought Missouri, but I don't find any evidence of that. It could have been ANYWHERE. Please respond to lequia@elite.net For those who have seen this message before, thanks for reading again. I'm getting desperate-none of my leads turn up any evidence of the orphans anywhere.
Does anyone have any information on a Harrison Wood or Woods whose wife's name was Ellen. Harrison was supposedly from New York. Ellen was from either Maine or Rhode Island. They had a child born in 1866 or 1867 in Wisconsin (location could have been somewhere else). In 1870 I cannot find them on a census and they may have died young just prior to 1880 or just after 1880. So far I have not located them on the 1880 census but am looking. They could have lived anywhere. That is the biggest problem. If anyone has any lead at all on someone with the same name living absolutely anywhere, I would appreciate hearing from you. I will follow up on even the slightest clue.
Hello All, I join with the others in welcoming Bettie as new moderator of the WOOD List. I'm searching for any information concerning my g-grandfather, Jesse Lee(Leonidas?) WOOD's 1st child, Anna WOOD b. 1860 in Dyer Co., TN. Her mother, who was reportedly b. in TN and died during the Civil War, is listed only as "M" WOOD on the 1860 Census for rural Dyer Co., TN. The last time Anna is listed is on the 1880 Census for Springfield, Greene Co., MO at age 20 living with her father and step-mother, Ada M. (DABBS) WOOD b. 1866 in IL, step-brothers Jesse WOOD b. 1878 and Henry Clay "Hal" WOOD b. 1880 in Springfield, Greene, MO. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Jesse Lee "Jack" WOOD,III Powell, OH (Formerly from TX) jwood1@mindspring.com
I am still trying to identify the parents of the below Henry J. Wood(s), so if anyone has any suggestions, comments, or reasonable guesses, please let me know. Brett F. I am trying again for any information on my ggrandfather.Frank Woods. Frank was last heard of in 1926 when he made headlines in the Detroit newspaper as winning a fiddler contest. He was 73 at that time. Reportedly Frank was born in Ohio about 1853. In 1884 he was recorded as married to Hannah(Osborne?) and living in Bay City, Michigan. Their son Edmund Woods was born in 1884. Edmund moved to MN around 1908, was married, had children, was divorced and died in MN in 1948. Any information regarding Frank Woods would be appreciated. Thank you. Sue Swendsen
Gotta add my lost Wood branch... I am (and have been for a long time) looking for any information on Edward Wood, born about 1835, probably in Jones or Craven Co, NC. He was the son of Isaiah Wood and (probably) a lady named Nancy (or Ann) with an unknown last name. Edward married Susan W. White, the daughter of William Hardy White and Irenah White, probably about 1872. The White's were from Craven Co. Edward and Susan had: John (1872), Olivia (1874), Charles (1886), Mary(1878), William H. (1882) Benjamin (1884) and Isaiah Alpheus (1889). Am looking for any info on Edward's ancestors, or descendents. He was my g grandfather. I know there was another Isaiah living in that part of NC in the 1850 census, but don't know how he connects to 'my' Isaiah. Since a guardian was appointed for Edward and his brothers in 1839, my Isaiah was already dead. Edward lived until after the 1900 census, but was not in the 1910 census. Some of Edward's children moved to Warren Co, NC by the time they were of marriagable age. Any info on any of these people would be much appreciated. The Wood pile is huge, and my toothpick is hard to find. Barbara Wood Litt
Good Evening, I am searching for my gg grandfather William WOODS. Family "lore" states that William was born in Gallatin, Sumner, Tennessee. Unverified information states that William could have been the son of Jno (John) Wood who filed a will October 24, 1834. The will lists wife: Jane Woods; children: Charles, Robert, Sarah, William, James F., and John. It is reported that William ran away from home when he was sixteen and never returned. William b: 18 Dec 1830 d: 9 Sep 1902 and md: Elizabeth ESTEP 4 Nov 1855 in Popular Bluff, Butler, Missouri. Children: Tempia Ellen b: 1856 MO (my great grandmother); Eli C. b: Abt 1858 AR; David Christopher b: 1861 AR; Tennessee b: 1868 MO; Sara Jane b: 1873 MO; John E. b: Abt 1880 MO. The above information was given to me by my grandmother Bertha Jane McKinley LANE. I also have a brief compiled family history "The Wood(s) Family" compiled by David CUNNINGHAM. Information on William and his mother, father, and siblings would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to share what information that I have. Thank you. Yvonne Strong ystrong@sisna.com
I am researching my husbands Wood(s) line. Not much information to go on but this is what I do have. My husbands Grandfather was Will M. Sullivan bMar23, 1900 in Russellville AR. Will's parents were Samuel M. Sullivan born approx 1873 and Pink Brealey born in approx 1875. After his fathers early death, his mother remarried to Bill Wood(s). Will had one brother, Joe Sullivan and a 1/2 brother Frank Woods. Half sisters were Edith, Pearl, Cora Mae & Drusilla Woods. Will married Una Verlon Nugent in Russellville AR and soon moved to Paris AR where they raised their family and died. Does anyone have any connection to this family or any additional information. I do have the birth certificate of Will. Other information is what we have been told. Thank you, Rhonda SAMUEL McGehee
Does anyone have any information on the Don A.T. Woods who is enumerated on the 1870 and 1880 Guadalupe County TX Censuses. LDS has an entry of a Don Alfonso Thomas Woods who married a Mary Ann Lillard in Harrodsburg, Mercer County, KY on 1 August 1850. This had to be the same individual because Mary Ann died in Guadalupe County TX on 17 March 1872. Mary Ann was born on 15 Fed 1832 in Mercer County KY. "Don Alfonso" was supposedly born around 1830. LDS indicates his birth place as "of KY," so I suppose he really could have been born anywhere. Still, with a name like "Don Alfonso Thomas" one would think he should be reasonably easy to identify. Thanks for any assistance. Brett F. Woods Santa Fe, New Mexico
Russell, While I don't have anything concrete, Sussanah's "McKinley" surname caught my eye. My Hymelius (Hemelius, Hymolus, etc.,) Patton married Nancy Woods 26 Oct 1824 in Orange Co, NC. Nancy was b. 1806, parents unknown, however the McKinley name is one that pops up in my Patton/Woods line. Hymelius & Nancy's son Alexander McKinley Patton b. 01 Oct 1831 Orange Co, NC and two g grandsons named Arthur McKinley Patton b. 1897 & 1922, respectively. I wonder if any McKinleys pop up in Orange Co, NC? Hello, Would any list member have any information regarding WOOD family involvement with the Seventh Day Baptist Church(s) of New York 1800-1850. I understand that chuch members of this area and time were very "tight-knit". Has anyone experience ordering from "Heritage Books"? Best regards, Leon L. Wood, III
Seeking information on Eloise and Bertha May Woods, daughters of Berbie (perhaps Robert) B. Woods and Annie Taylor. Eloise, Bertha and their brothers John and Robert were born prior to 1930 in Central NC. We are told that they were placed in an orphanage in the early 1930s. I have checked with the Oxford Children's Home, and they have no records of either girl being there. Appreciate and information or even hints as to what orphanages would have been in the area of Caswell, Orange, Durham counties during the 1930s and 1940s. Renee W. Does anyone have any information on a Robert Woods b about 1783 in South Carolina? Was he the son of William and Sussanah McKinley Woods of Abbeville South Carolina? Is this the same Robert Woods who was listed on the 1850 and 1860 Coosa County Alabama Federal Censuses? He was married to an "Elizabeth" if that helps any. I would like to hear from anyone who has a fair amount of information on William and Sussanah Woods of Abbeville South Carolina. William died in 1804 and his wife Sussanah C McKinley Overstreet probated her will in 1829. They had a large family. Can anyone help? Thanks! Russell
