    3. Sheri, You might want to try searching land patents. The Bureau Of Land Management - General Land Office Records are online at: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/search/search.asp?s=14 Not all the states are included, but Minnesota is and there are numerous entries for Wood and Woods. Hope you find the site to be of interest. Brett F. Woods Santa Fe, New Mexico

    2. Lequia
    3. Wow- there sure are a lot of helpful Wood/Woods reseachers out there. It sounds like from your responses that Lutie is definately a name people have heard of as both a nickname and a given name. That helps. I am now working on Minnesota Wood/Woods. Would love to hear from anyone on that. Thanks. Sheri at lequia@elite.net

    3. I think I may have found my orphaned Wood/Woods child, Herbert Woods in Minnesota in 1880 census living with a Fred Leathers family in Oak Grove, Anoka County Minnesota. If anyone has Wood/Woods in Minnesota in 1880's I'd like to hear from you to look for possible connections. I'll have to go back to the 1870 census in Minnesota to find Herbert/Bert with his parents. I am excited that it looks like I have found him. Hooray! I'll keep you all posted. Everyone has been very helpful.

    2. Lequia
    3. Can anyone tell me where to begin looking for an ancestor if I know he was born in New York- but don't know his parents names? Do I have to look through the entire census for all Wood families? Is there a better idea? Are there any CD's with census records from 1840 or 50 NY? Are there any CD's with vital records from NY during the mid 1800's? How have other people been successful in searching New York? It is so big!!! I don't know where or how to start there- and it looks like my search has taken me there. Any help from anyone is greatly appreciated!
