    1. [WOODS-L] Wood/Woods in St. Croix, Virgin Islands
    2. Hello, listers. I am researching the Wood/Woods family of St. Croix Virgin Islands. The earliest data I have is 1781, Thomas Wood married Mary Graisbury (sp?), also, July 21, 1782, was christened _______-daughter of Charles & Elizabeth Woods. Charles & Elizabeth had another child, Edward, christened June 21, 1797. And William Henry Woods, son of Charles and Sarah, born Dece. 9, 1801. I do not know if the same Charles was married to Elizabeth and then Sarah, or if there were two Charleses. Also living on St. Croix was Charles Woods, an American surgeon, no idea where he was from. I do not know if this is the same person as any of the Charleses above. Any help greatly appreciated. Laura A. in NC

    2. JWoods
    3. Everyone: We have recently had a research BREAK-THROUGH!! Thanks to the assistance and advice of our RootsWeb family, it appears from census data that the parents of JOHN SAMUEL WOODS may have been: Tillman and Sarah WOODS The 1850 census for Henry County, Tennesse, 7th Civil District, page 302, show the following: Dwelling 146, Family #148 Tillman Woods age 47 m farmer North Carolina Sarah Woods age 48 f " Eliza Woods age 25 f " Martha Woods age 24 f " William Woods age 22 m " " Nancy Woods age 21 f " George Woods age 20 m " John Woods age 18 m Tennessee Caroline Woods age 15 f Tennessee Margaret Woods age 13 f Tennessee Marion Woods age 9 f Tennessee Nancy Woods age 61 f North Carolina Based on the above census data, the following may be true: Tillman Woods, b. about 1803, North Carolina Sarah Woods (his wife), b. about 1802, North Carolina Eliza Woods, b. about 1825, North Carolina Martha (Hastings) Woods (believed to be the wife of William Woods), b. about 1826 William Woods, b. about 1828, North Carolina Nancy Woods, b. about 1829, North Carolina George Woods, b. about 1830, North Carolina *** Family moves to Tennessee *** John Woods, b. about 1832, Tennessee Caroline Woods, b. about 1835, Tennessee Margaret Woods, b. about 1837, Tennessee Marion Woods, b. about 1841, Tennessee Nancy Woods (probably the mother of Tillman Woods), b. about 1789, North Carolina It is believed that Martha "Paddy" (Hastings) Woods and William L. Woods were married 9 Jul 1848 in Henry County, Tennessee. It is believed that John (Samuel) Woods and Martha Ann Hastings were m arried 11 Aug 1853 in Henry County, Tennessee, resided there for a while, and moved to southern Illinois by 1860. The father of Tillman Woods and husband of Nancy Woods was probably born in North Carolina and died prior to the 1850 census in Tennessee. We are seeking additional information on this family, descendants and ancestors. Although we believe the above information to be correct, we would like to VERIFY. Thanks to all!! Judy Woods

    3. Hello, I am looking for a Thomas DeWitt Woods born early 1900 but not sure of the actual date. He had a younger brother, James, who was a sales manager for a radio manufacturing company in New Orleans in 1937. His brother DeWitt, worked in St. Louis as a radio operator for the goverment. Their mother was Florence (Chambers) Woods originally from DeSoto Wis along the Mississippi later of McGregor, Iowa. Her husband, their father was James L Woods and he died in Sept 9, 1928 of a heart attack. Does anyone know of these Woods brothers or of a radio company in New Orleans at that time? 3. James L Woods Sr. married Florence Chambers (daughter of William Seymour Chambers and Aurora Belle Spearbeck Chambers) of Vernon County, Wisconsin. Their two sons were James L Woods Jr in New Orleans in the year of 1937 and Thomas DeWitt Woods in St Louis in the year of 1937. Any information on Woods living in the Vernon County area would be helpful. That area would include the area along the Mississippi below LaCrosse down to DeSoto and over to Richland Center up to Tomah area. Is there anyone living in the St Louis or New Orleans area that would be willing to do look-ups for me at the library or courthouses? Thank-you!
