    1. [WOODS-L] Absolom Woods
    2. Does anyone recognize Absolom Woods married to Ruth Thomas July 12, 1798 in Lincoln, Kentucky? I am looking for the parents of Ruth C. Woods born about 1807 in Kentucky and am hoping to turn up some clues. She is listed in Adam Woods will in 1826 in Howard County Missouri as his granddaughter. Ruth C. Woods married James H. Delaney (my grt grt grt grandfather) 17 Jan 1828 in Howard County, Missouri. Adam's will is the earliest mention I have found of her. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. 1. [WOODS-L] [WOODS] Woods Genealogy Transcription
    2. I am in possesion of a WOODS Family Genealogy compiled and written in the 1920's by Emmett M. Wickham Attorney, of Delaware , Ohio. As I have WebTv and no scanner, I will have to do this the old-fashioned way ( I have to type it) so I will post it in several parts....Hope this helps someone.... THE WOODS FAMILY JOSEPH WOODS "We should be proud of our ancestory, Joesph Woods. He was one of the immortals who fought at Lexington and Bunker Hill. On the night of April 18, 1775, when Paul Revere made his famous ride described in the poem by Longfellow, and gave the alarm to the Minute Men near Concord and Lexington, our ancestor marched from Bolton to Lexington and the next day, April 19, particiated in the battle in which the first blood was shed for American Independence. What a glorious privelege ! Then, two months later, June 17th, came the Battle of Bunker Hill. Too great a measure of honor cannot be bestowed on the patriots engaged in that conflit--every man of them a hero! I would rather be able to point to such an ancestor as Joseph Woods, a hero of Lexington and Concord, and Bunker Hill, than to any man who ever wore a crown. I think it would be neat and proper that we, the descendents of Joseph Woods and Joseph Welch, should forever hold June 17th, the anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill, as a holiday. We should provide ourselves with a good history of the United States and read about that Battle and, while we read, think of those two of our ancestors, thus keeping in memory their services to their country and their personal merits. About all the knowledge we have of Joseph Woods I have obtained from a communication received from the Pension Office in Washington , in reply to my inquiry into the military record of our ancestor and what is known of his service in the Revolutionary War as disclosed by a work published in the State of Massachusetts. From: MASSACHUSETTS SOLDIERS AND SAILORS OF THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR Vol.17, Pages 847 ff JOSEPH WOODS ***BOLTON 'Private-Capt. 3. Just a thought. Wasn't 1917 the beginning of that terrible flu epidemic which killed so many? Aren't these "modern" mysteries even more frustrating than the "ancient ones"? My father had eight aunts and uncles, but we can only trace three of them! The rest dropped of the face of the earth between 1910-1940. -----Original Message----- From: GabbyCrick@aol.com [mailto:GabbyCrick@aol.com] Sent: Sunday, January 07, 2001 7:59 AM To: WOODS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [WOODS-L] John Woods Wood Happy New Year Everyone! 3. Hi Char & Brenda, The following is my Woods line - none of which I have personally verified as yet. As you can see it is skimpy! William Woods b: 18 Dec 1830 Gallatin, Sumner, TN d: 3 Sep 1900 Elizabeth Estep b: 1 Jun 1839 Gaither, Boone, AR d: 28 Dec 1917 Children: Tempia Ellen Woods b: 29 Aug 1856 Swan Township, Taney, MO d: 11 Mar 1930 Boise, ID Married: Charles Owen Lane (My Line) Eli C. Woods b: abt 1818 b: Arkansas? David Christopher Woods b: 27 Jun 1861 Gaither, Boone, AR Tennessee Woods b: 17 Oct 1868 Swan Township, Taney, MO Sara Jane Woods b: 19 July 1873 Swan Township, Taney, MO John E. Woods b: Abt 1880 Swan Township, Taney, MO Family Compiled History passed down to me which was compiled by David Cunningham indicates (assumption as well) parents of William Woods were John Wood and Jane. His information taken from a will dated 24 Oct 1834 and probated in Gallatin, Sumner, TN in 1836. Children listed in will: Charles Robert William Sarah James F. John Family fokelore states William ran away from home at age 16 and never returned. William Woods was known affectionately as "Uncle Billy" by his neighbors in Taneyville, Taney, County. Char, I'm still interested in the McKinley surname as it seems to me that my own grandmother Bertha Jane McKinley Lane must have gotten her name from the McKinley's in some way. I have often wondered what the connection is. Thanks for replying to my query. Maybe someone else on our Woods list will recognize my family. Yvonne

I have never been able to discover why Grandma's name included McKinley. I will be anxious to see the replies to your message to see if I there is any connections to my Woods family. 3. I guess the Pace or McCall line overpowered the Woods line in my family, as most of us are blondes or redheads with light skin that burns easily, but some do have the prominent nose and bad eyes as well as the gambling vice. Of course the gambling may have come from my Cravens line also, as one great uncle, Will Cravens, was killed in a poker game in Nyco,MX. about 1905 or so. My line comes down from Samuel and Margaret (Holmes) Woods (NC,TN,MO) to Oliver and Nancy Haynes Woods (NC,TN,MO) to Samuel Newton Woods and wife Sicily Walker Pace Woods (TN,MO) to their daughter Sicily Cordelia Woods(MO,NM,OK) and husband William Perry McCall(MO,NM,OK) to John William McCall(MO,NM) and wife Anna Belle Cravens(AR,NM) to James Perry McCall(NM) and wife Ida Lorena Snyder(TX,NM) to me Anna Jean McCall(NM). Take care, Nora >> Hello, I checked with my mom and she said she had never thought much about her Woods' noses. BUT the other night her 12 yr old granddaughter was telling her that she had a big nose. LOL Mom said the more she thought about it and looked at some old pictures, she said her Woods do have a prominent nose. As far as the gambling, mom said her grandfather was a real hard working farmer. He didn't have time or money for things like gambling. You know though, life itself was a gamble years ago. I know for my great grandfather to load up his family and personal belongings on to a raft and float across the mighty Mississippi River from Tennessee into Missouri was a big gamble. I know that is not the way we look at gambling now days. Take care, Nora

    3. Well, let's go to the very best first: the NIH National Library in Bethesda: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/ When the page comes up be sure to change the far left box to read "PubMed" or you will not be able to get abstracts, only genomes. Then, type in "2894467", later call up "2868379" and SEARCH. These are two simpler to read documents I pulled up when I did a keyword search using "tricyclic anti-depressants, histaminergic". Play around with this and use other keywords, ie H1 H2 H3 antagonists, or pharmacology/pharmacokinetic, etc. Some others are 6369184, 2863732, 11023712. A side note is that the histamineric system within the human body has not yet been fully mapped, and it has only been recently that it was deduced that these components even functioned like transport systems within the body. Current research seems to be addressing histamine-brain function in ahlzimers (sp?) and other dynamics. But, clinical practices are usually 10-20 years away from what is going on now in research, so this information is probably still way ahead of the Dr's office environment! Hope this helps clarify, and if I didn't explain it well, let me know. Mia Lequia <lequia@elite.net> wrote: Hmmm. I didn't know that there was any scientific basis for a connection between depression and allergies. I do know that when I am having severe allergy problems I have trouble with being depressed. I also know that my dad recently stated that he had some connection between allergy symptoms and signs of depression. Do you know of a website where I can check this out? ----- Original Message ----- From: "mia nolastname" To: Sent: Tuesday, January 02, 2001 10:48 PM Subject: Re: [WOODS-L] Woods Characteristics > > How interesting! Do you know if there are allergies in the Woods line? Usually allergies are often an unknown source of depression, and few folks know that the 'workability' of anti-depressants is probably only their anti-histaminic effect, nothing more. I know this from personal experience with the stuff and finally finding out I was atopic (meaning, genetically the immune system is programmed wrong and the body reacts with the heavy artillary of the immune system -- Immunoglobulin E and attendant cytokines -- in order to 'fight off' anything perceived as foreign, and it perceives EVERYTHING as foreign to it, even foods!) I found that if I took benedryl (diephenhydramine, like what's in Excedrin PM) that the depression quickly lifts. Just thought I would pass this along if it is of interest to anyone. I also have the vision thing you refer to. I'm very interested in medicine, genetics, immunity and exactly how our body works at a cellular and subcellular level. 3. The above is the third Woods that I have found who had a lumber business. One was in Illinois and one in Kansas. They must be living up to their names.
