Paul I am not connected to this family but after a bit of searching I found what might be this family in the 1860 US Census for Michigan. You probably already have seen this info based on your email but just in case: US 1860 Galien, Berrien, Michigan, United States https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GBSS-7PR?i=13&wc=QZ2C-VXM%3A1589428970%2C1589423582%2C1589429177%3Fcc%3D1473181&cc=1473181 My guess is that the name Kimins might be spelled differently in Virginia since I found nothing there. Perhaps Riley Kimins is a clue, although the birth doesn't fit. Joe there is no connection between WOW and the Masons, although many were members of both .As for the Company and his policy, the Federal Privacy act will get you every time. If the local WOW Camp is still there ,they might have some info on him, but do not count on it. many camps came and went over the course of time and most did not have a regular meeting hall to store things in,so the Lodge Sect. kept them.that Set. could have passed All info on or not. Many of the old lodges were wooden buildings which often burned ,flooded,or were blown away by storms. Some times lodges just closed and who ever owned the Building took the records and stored them ,so its just a guess ,but i doubt if you can find the info. I would look to see if there are any Lodges listed in the Area. I does not hurt. Next I would try the Masonic Lodges in the Area and see if the Lodge Sect. Will look for to see if he has any records. My Masonic Lodge was charted one year before my town was ,but it has had three fires ,and lost a building to the 1920 Crash, so some of the files we have are just a folder with a name,Some have a little info ,and some have a lot. I hate to be discouraging but my Local lodge went dark twice and we had no records of those two lodges at all, In fact did not know about the first two until I found some old pictures in a Garage Sale. So Good luck . In a message dated 7/28/2011 8:23:53 A.M. Central Daylight Time, joewilliams6788@gmail.com writes: My grandfather died in 1919. The only place you would be able to get any info is if there is still a local Lodge in area were he lived AND They still have any old records. With todays Privicy Laws the company would not be able to help and they have very few Fraternal Records at Omaha. You must understand the oldway was to Join the Lodge to Buy Insurance it was a very Seperate thing. Today its buy the Insurance and become a member. Few Fraternal Lodges still have a building and most do not have ALL THERE RECORDS , as they had no place to keep them. It takes a great deal of space to store old records ,my Masonic Lodge was founded in 1884 and we have had three Fires which destroyrd many of our old records. the Lodge has 6 big wall to celling shelves and 12 old 4 drawer metal legal files full of what they do have ,it takes up a lot of space. When the WOW lodges shut down the Secretary often takes the active records and who knwes were the rest go . My Grandfather, David Abner WEBB, was a member of Woodmen of the World in TX. He was in Downsville until 1907, employed as a rural mail carrier. He passed away at age 32, and is buried in Harleton, Harrison County, in Center Cemetery. He has the traditional WOW headstone. Does anyone know where I might find any information on him? Thanks, Pat Webb

**************************************
See what's new at http://www.aol.com

I would assume that if the Woodmen "took care of the burials", then the plot in which they are buried must carry on it, one of those unique Woodmen "tree" tombstones, which are very easy to spot in any cemetery (or at least they are here in the East). Has someone checked out all of the likely cemeteries in Barnes City and in nearby Mahaska County, IA, for such markers, and/or in Poweshiek County, IA, as well? A few years ago, while during an Internet search for the place of burial of my mother's father's parents in or around Benton Harbor, MI, back in the 1890's, a kind lady from the BH Library found a Woodmen marker, the only one of its kind in that burial ground, at Resurrection Cemetery in nearby Saint Joseph, MI, containing the names of this set of my greatgrandparents. I don't know whether my greatgrandfather, who was a small-acreage fruit planter, was a member of the Woodmen fraternity, or had one of their burial policies, but I would guess that at least someone very close to him did have one. I have since seen a Woodmen marker in the churchyard burial ground of Old Swede's Church in Wilmington, DE, and it stands out prominently among the other memorial stones because it it so unique-looking. Bob Wilson Stamford, CT The Bark "Lanark" brought A. Wiseman from Liverpool in 1836. The ship "Adam Carr" brought the J. McNeals from Glasgow in 1845 The ship "Macedonia" maybe brought J. Gaffney from Liverpool in 1846. The ship "Underwriter" brought C. Cavanaugh from Liverpool in 1853. The M. Redmonds came over from County Wexford to Illinois in 1850. --------------------------------- Yahoo! Photos Ring in the New Year with Photo Calendars. Add photos, events, holidays, whatever.
Paul, Your great grandfather's birth information should be shown on the death certificate issued by the county in which he died; it usually will also show parents' names and maybe their birth locations. His church or church archives, funeral home, and local newspaper may also be sources of information you seek. Vern
I can tell you that with todays Privacy act and Woodmen has a very tight legal dept ,they will not help you ,if they could. Also the chanches of the Local Lodge still being in existence and having records ranks along with winning the Lottery in every State at the same time. the Fraternal part of Woodmen is very poor when it comes to records before 1990 ,the local records were kept in Lodge halls but by the 1950's a lot of these lodges were gone ,some closed ,some burned down ,some flooded ,Tornadoes ,etc. The Local Lodges have become to small in most cases to afford a Lodge hall so they meet in rented halls, and have no place to keep records. Our Lodge here lost its Lodge who knowes how ,and had one when i became active , but we have no records before 1999. No lodge equipt, Nothing. and no one has any idea were it went. Maybe thrown away ,maybe older members took it home to keep and as they got to old to come they still had it ,and it is in Attics ,Sheds ,etc. Kids come along and clean out these when they die ,have no idea what they have and its sold in estate sales, or Tuesdays trash pick up . You might check the local phone book and see if there is a lodge near by and write them to see if they have any records ,but that is all i can suggest. I have been working on my family tree and they all lived in Rural Texas and South and there are no Lodge records ,any were ,for any of them save the live ones .You might also look and see if they were Masons as at that time Fraternal groups were a good thing to belong to and Masons was a Very big one . If they have records ,they might be able to help , I was Lodge Secretary for a lodge founded here in 1884 ,and despite three fires we had a lot of records , some of the files had some info ,some had very little ,some had a lot .Just depends on what the secretaries kept up with . Sorry I can not be of more help. Doug
Not sure if I can get any info here but I have exhausted all other resources over the last 15 years of searching. I am trying to track my great grandfather Charles (Charley) R. Wright who was born in IN in April 1860 and died in Barnes City, Mahaska Co, IA on 1 Jan 1902. He lived for some years in Poweshiek Co, IA. He was a member of the Woodmen Lodge and it was mention in his that they took care of the burial. Is there any information that the lodge might have that could tell me where he was born and/or his parents names? I have his marriage info, censuses, etc and parents are listed on the marriage record however after an extensive search by professional genealogists there was no records of them existing. Any help greatly appreciated. Paul Wright

Has anyone ever checked out the WOW grave marker in Resurrection Cemetery in St. Joseph, MI? It memorializes a set of my greatgrandparents: John C. Jackson (1797-1896) and his wife, Anastacia (Redmond) (1821-1895). Both birth years on the marker are incorrect, however. He was born in 1815 in Pennsylvania, and she was born in 1823 in County Wexford, Ireland. There is also one in the churchyard of the "Old Swede's Church" in Wilmington, Delaware, but I don't know who it commemorates.
