Local histories in Wayne County, PA say that Gideon and his family came here ca. 1816 along with son-in-law Rufus Geer (m. Azuba Woodmansee). His obituary says that Amy died some six years before him. Although Thomas and Jeremiah came here, they didn't stay long. James (my ancestor) stayed. I have found no evidence that Amy Carter was an Indian and believe it's based on misreading an entry in an old record. There is a record of her birth to John Carter and Lydia Bowen in MA.
