    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: marilynwoodmansee Surnames: Woodmansee Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.woodmansee/128.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I know this is late, but I just started researching my family tree and wanted to respond. Based on my, admittedly amateur, research, I believe I am a direct descendent of Thomas Woodmansee, Jr. and Mary Chase. Thomas, Jr. and Mary's oldest son Thomas Woodmansee, III (b.1727/Swansea, MA) married Thankful Chase and they had a son Gideon (b. 1758/Dartmouth, MA). Gideon Woodmansee married Amy Carter and they had a son Thomas (b.1793/Dartmouth, MA). Thomas Woodmansee married Cynthia Chadwick and they had a son George Thomas (b. 1840/ Kalamzoo, MI). George Thomas Woodmansee married Annie Dent and had a son Charles Ewing (b. 1891/Bee, TX). Charles Ewing Woodmansee married Merle Howell and had my father Charles Howell Woodmansee who died in Eugene Oregon in 2008. My father had no siblings and no sons. My sister and I do not go by the Woodmansee name. Even if we did, our children took their fathers' name. The Woodmansee name on this limb of the majestic Woodmansee tree died with ! my father. Prior to Thomas, Jr. and Mary Chase, I was able to trace a direct line back to Gabriel Woodmansee and his wife,Sarah Ricks. Gabriel Woodmansee was born in 1633. It boggles my mind. The 10 generations of family history that I have learned is older than this country by over 100 years. I have learned of Quakers, seafarers, revolutionary war soldiers, civil war veterans, homesteaders, and farmers. I have learned of women who toiled tirelessly in the shadows while raising as many as 14 children. I have learned of preacher's daughters who basked in the freedom of the dawning of the 20th century and rejected their upbringing with a flask in their pocket and a twinkle in their eye. I have learned of preacher's daughters who became preacher's wives and then preacher's widows, supporting themselves on a meager civil war widow's pension and living with quiet dignity in abject poverty. This story goes on and on. What an epic tale. What an amazing cast of characters. It ! is a story that is an inspiration to all of us who have given up or ha ve lost hope in the face of overwhelming odds. It is a story that I am so pleased to learn of and so happy to share with others. What a wonderful resource this site is for all of us on a similar journey.
