As usual, completely confused. Can anyone cast any light?

I have a fairly complete record of the Woodmansees from Butler, Clinton, Darke & Clermont Co.'s in OH. Also extensive info on George Woodmansee who moved to Knox Co. Specifically what are you looking for?
I forgot to mention that Charles, Orion and their mother Sarah also lived in Columbus Ohio in the late 1800's. They are: ORION HOMER WOODMANSEE (older brother...so born sometime before 1878) SARAH SCOTT WOODMANSEE (Mother) Both of them lived at 129 Beech Street, Hillsboro (Highland County) Ohio and at least Orion was alive in the 1930's. I do not know when Sarah Woodmansee died.

I do not know when Sarah Woodmansee died. Charles Manning Woodmansee was born in 1877 or 1878 in either Wilmington Ohio or Antioch Ohio. He served in the Spanish American War and also in WWI. He married twice. First to Helena Sapp (divorced Sept, 1920 in Des Moines Iowa) and then to my husband's great aunt Valrie Marie Turner (married April, 1925 in St. Charles, Missouri.) Charles traveled all over the world and died in Tampa Florida on November 6th, 1942. He had no children from either marriage. Does anyone have a connection to Orion Homer Woodmansee or Sarah Scott Woodmansee, both of Ohio? Phyllis

The Woodmansee Book has all that separated. The Clinton County, OH Woodmansee's(most of them, anyway) are from Samuel Woodmansee, Sr., and I was the compiler of all those in Fayette, Highland and Clinton Counties, OH. I can do simple lookups on that bunch, if wanted? The James Woodmansee line (Butler County) was done by others, and there was a spillover into Clinton County, in a couple of cases. Charles Manning Woodmansee's death certificate does not list his parents names. I have a copy of his obituary from the Tampa newspaper but it does not mention parents or sibling's names. I may contact the genealogy society in Wilmington as you suggested to see if they have any other clues. Phyllis

I have only information on George, son of Thomas. I am working on James his brother. George came around 1853 to Knox Co., IL. All of his children are with him and/or came to Knox Co., IL with the family. James his brother, came sometime around then too. I can't find him in the 1860 census, he is in Clinton Co., OH in 1850 and in Knox Co., IL in 1870. I am currently working on tracking James' children through census records. Maybe he is from one of the children there. James had 7 known children, I found in census records-John b abt 1834, Charly/Charles b. abt 1836, Mary b abt 1839, Clarke b. abt 1840, Anne M b. abt 1844, Manard(?) b. abt 1850 all OH and laura Allie b. abt 1857 in IL. John, Charles and Laura are all found in Knox Co., IL. Clarke may of married there according to the statewide marriage index. Not sure though. Laura going on to Nebraska with husband, Samuel Cast. The other children I am still looking for. D! oes your death certificate say who the parents are, usually they do. If not, try to write to the genealogical society where he died and see if they can find an obituary. That can tell you more. If I find something in my census, I will let you know, Thanks Carrie

I have been unable to figure out how he relates to the other Woodmansees. His death certificate says he was born in Wilmington (Clinton County), but another relative thought he had family in New York.He served in the Spanish American War (Ca. 1898). I'm still waiting for his file from NARA. He married Valrie (Valerie) Turner of St Louis about 1927 and they later moved to Florida. They did not have any children. He died in 1948 in Tampa Florida. Unfortunately I can't place my hands on his data and do not recall when he was born, but it must have been about 1880 since he served in the Spanish American War. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone with Clinton County links?

Ohio Woodmansee's, goes back to a James Woodmansee born 26 August 1732, son of Thomas Woodmansee and wife Mary? of NJ. Thomas Woodmansee was a brother of my Ancestor, Joseph C Woodmansee born 1767in New London, CT, son of Gabriel Woodmansee. James Woodmansee born Aug 1732, married a Hanna Warden on 18 Jan 1738. I have no children for them. My Woodmansee lines were all in Rhode Island. Most of my contacts have been thru Thomas Woodmansee and his descendants.

This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/GQXBAIB/1.48 Message Board Post: Found this posted somewhere by a Deborah Brownfield Stanley originally; Posted in Decatur County Journal May 19, 1898 Iowa James W. Woodmansee died Monday morning, about 9 o'clock at the residence of his son, John Woodmansee, in this city, aged 81 years, 4 months, and 15 days. Though a man endowed with a strong constitution he had suffered the extremity of ill health for many months. He is survived by six children, Mrs. Ann Millsap of Hamilton County, Kansas; John Woodmansee of Leon, Mrs. Mary McLaughlin of Decatur Towmship, Reuben S., of Indianola, George of Mt. Ayr, and Mrs. Susan Grayson of Ringgold County. Mr. Woodmansee was born in Clermont County, Ohio, December 31, 1816, the youngest of six children of James and Agnes (Hammer)Woodmansee, natives of Pennsylvania and pioneers of Ohio. In 1820 they moved to Jackson County, Indiana, where the mother died in 1829 and the father in 1847. The deceased was married October 29, 1835 to miss Rachel Hammer, who was born November 14, 1819 in Jackson County, Indiana. In 1849, he came to Iowa and entered 160 acres of land on section 31, Decatur Township and built a house 18x30. In March of the following year he occupied the house with his family and thus became the first permanent settler in Decatur Township. In 1853 he built a grist mill and as it was the only one in the section of the state, it was patronized by settlers within a radius of fifty miles. The deceased was an industrious and frugal citizen and had accumulated considerable property during his life time. He was a good neighbor and noted for his honesty. His departure has left us the example of a well spent life and a good name. The funeral exercises were conducted at the residence yesterday forenoon at 10 o'clock by Elder Stevens, after which interment occurred in Woodmansee Cemeteyr, Decatur Township. Hope maybe that helps, anyone got any idea who James( who married Abigail Hammer) father was? Carrie
