I am researching the Joel A. Woodall line also. I think we are looking at the same person. My Joel A. Woodall is the son of Thomas Holmes Woodall b. abt. 1795 in South Carolina. Thomas brought most of his sons and daughter so Cherokee County, TX in the mid 1840s. Joel A. seems to have stayed in Alabama then come to Texas after 1860. He was a wagon mkaer and blacksmith and the townspeople tried wrote the Governor of TX in 1862 to try to get hime exempted from the Civil War draft. Four or five of the Woodall sons and grandsons served, Thomas being killed in Missippi. My ultimate goal is to determine the father of Joel Isaac Woodall. He shows up as with his uncle or great uncle William C. Woodall in the 1870 census. Joel A. Woodall according to Cheerokee County probate records died in the late 1860s. I don't recall off the top of my head. Since Joel I. was born c. 1864, I assumed Joel A. was his father. You don't list a Joel I as one of the sons.
