Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/5538/YFXBAEB/730.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: This man is believed to have died with Lt. Col. Henry H. Young, chief of scouts for Maj. Gen. Philip Sheridan in November of 1866. They were crossing the border from Mexico and were killed in an ambush. Apparently, the bodies floated away down the Rio Grande and were not recovered. There has never been an official report on their cause of death, nor were their bodies ever recovered. Woodall was a confederate soldier who deserted early 1865 and served as one of Sheridan's scouts for the duration of the war, and beyond.
