My great-grandfather was named Joseph N. Woodall and was born in 1864. I believe he was born in Newcastle-under-lyme, but I"m not sure about that. I found an 1871 UK census entry with a Joseph Woodall who was 7 years old at the time, and his father's name was William, who was a limestone miner, and mother Sofia. There were brothers named William and I think a Daniel. There was a sister named Emma as well. One of my Grandpa Woodalls sisters (Joe Woodalls daughter) was named Emma Sofia, so it's circumstantial but there is a link. Iron or steel working seems to be a common theme, as well. How much do you know about your ancestors from the 1860-1890 period? I believe my great-grandfather came to America around 1887 or so. Common family names are William and Joseph- there has been one of each in all 6 generations that I am aware of. Also, have you done any DNA tests? I met a Nigel Woodall through familytreedna.com. We matched 12 genes o! n the Y chromosome, so we are realted somehow but he can trace his Woodalls to the 1770's in London. I hope to hear form you soon.

She said the Woodall's came from the mountain range along the TN/NC border. She said they took a route south into the northern part of GA (she didn't know a town name or county) and stayed a while. Then moved west into AL, again she didn't give me any town or county names but they stayed in AL (somewhere around Ft. Payne) for a while. Acenath was from AL so I'm thinking this is where they were married. They then moved on westward to MS where they (Abram and Acenath) lived in Yalobusha County for several years, long enough to have all 6 of their children. They left MS crossing the Mississippi river and lived in Grant/Saline counties for the rest of their lives. Of course the younger ones went their seperate ways but that was where they lived when my grandmother Laura Bell Woodall married my grandfather, James Monroe "Jim" Lemons. Laura died when my mother was 16 and grandpa never remarried. Laura wa! s they daughter of James and Amanda (Speer) Woodall. James was one of Abram and Acenath's son. I checked my list and I don't seem to have a Nesmith or Wilson in that line. If I knew more about my Abram's parents it would help a lot. It could be that the mother-in-law was related to Abram in some way and they all traveled together. Sounds like they may have taken the same route. Sorry I can't be more help. Maybe one day we'll find the answers we seek.

She married an ancestor in Adair Co. KY on 04/FEB/1807. James died there in 1810. I found a will of James and it lists Sarah as his wife, it also lists his children. The will was Witnessed by Coffee Woodall, could be Sarahs father. Sarah and James are listed on the Final Dawes Roll. I strongly believe the children belong to both James and Sarah although the marriage date doesnt coincide. I'm stuck there.
I am a descendant of Mariah Woodall who married Archibald Moore in 1937 in St Clair County Alabama. I'm a Barnes thur their daughter Artemissa who married my grandfather Jordan Barnes. I have had the Barnes DNA, both the 12 and 37 Marker done. Is there any way I can connect or incorporate this with the Woodall study. I am connected with some other groups as well. My Kit ID number is 6921 & code F1646. I have had over two hundred connections so far in the US to N/A and others, Europe, Polynesia and Asia-even Iceland. It would be nice if we could share notes. I am also on the National Geographic study of population movements. Thanks for any considerations. Dr. Bob Barnes
