We have spent some time looking at your website. We personally researched in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, looking at many records including microfilm, microfiche and old books. The marriage record you referred to of a John Woodall and Sarah Stanley/Staulie actually occurred in 1603 at St Peter Cornhill in London, England. The marriage was of Barber Surgeon John Woodall and his wife Sarah. An extraction on this original record can be found on this website: http://www.familysearch.org This primary and secondary record from St. Peter Cornhill's Parish which we personally viewed gave other details such as John's occupation, etc. The John Woodall who was born approximately 1678 give or take somewheres around 10 yrs. birth date based only on known sons ages John & William born circa 1710 who were mentioned in his 1750 WILL. His wife's name has never been found on any document. Her name is still unknown to this day. There is no sort of documentation of the identity of the father of John Woodall born approximately 1678. It is true that we do not even know where John who left his 1750 WILL was born. We as researchers of Woodall's who were originally from Virginia for many years (speaking for others such as Verna Perier, Ruth Mason, Steve Woodall & Andy Marshall) believe it is most likely that he probably was born in either MD, VA, or ENG but then there is no document to be found in any courthouse, library, bible record etc. to support this theory. The William Woodall born abt 1709 did not serve in the Revolutionary War. His 1st wife's name is unknown. No proof of her name being Mary Woodson or Mary Smith, Mary Jones or anything like it. Her name is unknown. There is no known connection between the descendants of Barber Surgeon John Woodall and any Woodall families today. Barber Surgeon's line may have died out. On the Woodall DNA Project website to this date there are 14 different DNA results. Remember Wood(h)all was a place name, which would explain most different DNA results. Also on the Woodall DNA project website DNA results will show that there were at least 2 William's in VA at the same time and there are two different Woodall Families who attended the St. James Parish In Goochland County. An extraction on this original record can be found on this website: http://www.familysearch.org<http://www.familysearch.org/> This primary and secondary record from St. Read the information posted on the website which explains this If you are not familiar with this website, here is the link: http://homecfl.rr.com/woodalldna/Test%20Results.htm<http://home.cfl.rr.com/woodalldna/Test%20Results.htm> We appreciate your enthusiasm. Hi, Well, I don't know if I "have it" or not <smile>. The Woodall line is surely a complicated, very confusing one.. Betty
Hello, Yes, my cousin who took the Y-DNA test has been upgraded to 37 markers. He's # 36335 on the DNA site, Family # 4, sons of John Woodall born 1709/1710. We are definitely members of Family # 4. Our spelling of the name was changed to "Woodell" at some point during the early to mid 1800s. My line matches # 40732 and # 18481 perfectly, all 37 markers, but not the other matches in Family # 4. There are genetic distances with the others. My line descends from a John who was born 1761 in VA but the ancestors of the other 37 marker perfect matches to my line are unknown back that far. One of my matches even has a different surname. Some members have not upgraded their tests to 37 markers, however. No testee can seem to be found for James B. Woodall, and the two persons who descend from Jacob Woodall have not upgraded their tests to 25 or 37 markers. My line "seems" to be from either James B. or Jacob--or it "could" be from William, the "true" son of so-called "DNA John" who was born 1678/1680. Betty Catherwood
Have you done the 37 marker dna test? Just wondering because my ancestors turned out to be from James D. Woodall from Granville who was formerly James Duncan son of Seamore Duncan and Diane Woodall. They were all in the Granville area 1776 - 1793 or so. Hello, Well, I am really confused about all this information on the line of John Woodall. I know the DNA site "seems" to have proven that my line (Family # 4) is descended from John born 1709/1710 in VA who was the son of the John born about 1678 or 1680. My line is a few steps off from some of the other members of Family # 4, however. Now I have wondered if my line "could" have been descended from the William who was the "true" son of John, the William who left VA about 1766 and ended up in Granville Co. NC, though no one seems to know his whereabouts thereafter. (These were both sons of John born 1678/80 who left a will in 1750.) Recently I came across information on RootsWeb, supposedly from a descendant of the real William, and it says he moved to Craven Co. SC and died there in either 1776 or 1779. Have been unable to contact the person who posted this information, however. So did William the true son of 1768 John have descendants and were they male? It would surely help, of course, if we could find someone from his line to DNA test. I wish the person who posted the information on RootsWeb would get in touch with me--or at least write the Woodall List. My line is through a John Woodall who was born in VA, 1761. Later he moved to Johnston Co. NC and after moving south in that state, finally settled in Robeson Co. NC where he died in 1833 or '34. I have yet to discover the name of his father but he would have to have been either James B. Woodall (another testee needed for his line!) or Jacob Woodall, both sons of the John who left his will in 1750. Or my line could be from the elusive William.. Betty Catherwood <Vonskipper@aol.com>

Glenda, I did some studying of the census records this AM with Isham Woodall's. Have you studied any census records for your Woodall's? Your Isham Woodall was born 1821. Isham is on the 1860 census with son Emeriah other children and Isham's wife Susan. The Isham Woodall born in 1834 is a totally different person with a Rebecca Ellen as his wife. No child by the name of Emeriah. I see in 1850 his father is James Gower Woodall. Looks like you go to Family Group four on the Woodall DNA Project. I am in Family Group one. So basically you need to remove the descendants of William (Charles 1732, John 1734, Shadrach 1745, and Benjamin 1765) from your website. William who left the 1797 WILL in Goochland County is NOT the son of John who left the 1750 WILL in Goochland. William the true son of John who left the 1750 WILL sold his land and left Goochland County. His descendants are unknown. We do not know if he even married or had any sons, perhaps he could have had ALL daughters! William Woodall, son of John who left the 1750 WILL , was out of Goochland by 1766 and appears to have gone to Granville, North Carolina, whereas William Woodall, father of Charles Woodall (Revolutionary War Veteran), was in Goochland County until 1797. Please make these changes on your website as soon as you can and remove Barber Surgeon John Woodall (1569-1643) & Sarah Stanley/Staulie. John Woodall who left the 1750 WILL was born after Surgeon John had died. Also please remove information regarding William Woodall which is innnacurate, other than his approximate birthdate of 1709/1710. To those of you on the Woodall List:Ancestry subscription to census records is very helpful for research. Most Mormon/LDS family history centers have subscriptions to ancestry.com available for the public to use for free. If you can't afford the subscription you can look in your phone book for a Family History center.
