This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Woodall Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.woodall/1212/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I see some say that Isham Woodall's parent's were James Grower Woodall abt 1800 SC. & Sarah Barber. Could someone tell me where they got the birthdate of abt: 1821 NC/SC/GA for Isham Woodall? As I read it in 1850 Census NC it states: James G. Woodall: 50 Sarah: 48 Troy: 18 Isham: 16 Ira: 14 This would put Isham's birth year at abt: 1834. 1860 Census NC., it states: James Woodall: 60 Sarah Woodall: 58 Isom Woodall: 26 Martha Woodall: 15 Ira Woodall: 24 Elizabeth Woodall: 14 Looks like the same family, but here Isom Woodall B: abt 1834. So were Isham & Isom twins? Where was Isom in 1850 census? I'm really confused and really would like the proof that Isham was born 1821 NC. Some have Isham Woodall born 1821 NC/GA. Where in Georgia or SC did you find this proof. Something else to think about: Info from Margaret Woodall Howard & Patsy Patterson who have done extensive work on this Woodall line. Isham Woodall's son Zachariah Woodall B; Feb 18, 1865 Morgan Co., Al. talked to his daughter Sadie Woodall Flippo B: Dec 7, 1897 D: May 19, 1970. I quote: Sadie said that Zachariah always talked about the 3 brothers that came to this country from Ireland. He always talked about the other two but never talked about his father Isham. Unquote: This tells me that Isham came here with his two brothers from Ireland. Patsy Patterson can varify this story I beleive. She descends from Zack Woodall. 1860 Census Decalb Co., Al. Isham Woodall: 39 1870 Census Blount Co., Al. Isham Woodall 50 1880 census Blount Co., Al. Isham Woodall: 59 Looks like he was born abt. 1821, but where? Thanks, Glenda

We have spent some time looking at your website. We personally researched in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, looking at many records including microfilm, microfiche and old books. The marriage record you referred to of a John Woodall and Sarah Stanley/Staulie actually occurred in 1603 at St Peter Cornhill in London, England. The marriage was of Barber Surgeon John Woodall and his wife Sarah. An extraction on this original record can be found on this website: http://www.familysearch.org This primary and secondary record from St. Peter Cornhill's Parish which we personally viewed gave other details such as John's occupation, etc. The John Woodall who was born approximately 1678 give or take somewheres around 10 yrs. birth date based only on known sons ages John & William born circa 1710 who were mentioned in his 1750 WILL. His wife's name has never been found on any document. Her name is still unknown to this day. There is no sort of documentation of the identity of the father of John Woodall born approximately 1678. It is true that we do not even know where John who left his 1750 WILL was born. We as researchers of Woodall's who were originally from Virginia for many years (speaking for others such as Verna Perier, Ruth Mason, Steve Woodall & Andy Marshall) believe it is most likely that he probably was born in either MD, VA, or ENG but then there is no document to be found in any courthouse, library, bible record etc. to support this theory. The William Woodall born abt 1709 did not serve in the Revolutionary War. His 1st wife's name is unknown. No proof of her name being Mary Woodson or Mary Smith, Mary Jones or anything like it. Her name is unknown. There is no known connection between the descendants of Barber Surgeon John Woodall and any Woodall families today. Barber Surgeon's line may have died out. On the Woodall DNA Project website to this date there are 14 different DNA results. Remember Wood(h)all was a place name, which would explain most different DNA results. Also on the Woodall DNA project website DNA results will show that there were at least 2 William's in VA at the same time and there are two different Woodall Families who attended the St. James Parish In Goochland County.
