Author: BeeGeeHenry Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.woodall/653.4/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There has always been the tradition in my family that we had a Cherokee ancestor, on my paternal G Grandmother's side. My G grandmother was Henrietta (WOODALL) JACKSON She was the daughter of Sarah Mae (KESSINGER) b. about 1836 KY. and William C. Woodall b.1839 TN. I have his parents listed as James b. 1823 and Nancy M. b. 1823. The Native American ancestor has always intrigued us, but we've never found any information. My grandfather wouldn't talk about it. His mother died when I was a child and I don't think I ever met her. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Message-ID: <BAY114-DAV1584346EFCE2851111B3BB3830@phx.gbl> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Hi. I am a participant in the Woodall DNA Project. We have had some interesting results. As of today we have 15 different Family Groups. >From Woodall DNA Project website, "As the database of test samples grows with this Project, these people may discover connections to earlier Woodall families previously unknown or unsuspected." http://home.cfl.rr.com/woodalldna/Test%20Results.htm<http://home.cfl.rr. com/woodalldna/Test%20Results.htm> We still need DNA from the Eastern Shore Maryland Woodall's, The Pulaski County, KY Woodall's, descendants of Shadrach Woodall of VA, and other lines. Please look at the website. This could probably help your research if you can have a male Woodall take this test. >From FTDNA website, "Our bodies work as copy machines when it comes to the Y-DNA. You can have a copy machine doing 1,000 copies without a problem, and then, the 1,001 copy may have an "o" that looks more like an "e". And when we use this copy to make additional ones, all the new ones will now have an "e" instead of an "o". This is a simple way to explain how mutations occur in our Y-DNA when it's transferred (copied) from father to son. Mutations don't happen frequently, on the contrary, very seldom, but they can happen randomly in time, which means that I could be one mutation off of my father. " How is the testing done? Two cheek scrapers (looks like Q-tips) and two collection tubes are used for the DNA test kit which is then processed by FTDNA. Goals of Project: Determine who is related, Prove or disprove theories regarding ancestral research, Solve brick walls in research, Validate existing research, Determine areas for further research, Develop a DNA database for future researchers. I found a paper about my 2nd great-ggrandfather John William Woodal (Woodle). He is listed as #62 on the Old Settlers Roll. They stayed in Arkansas instead of moving to OK Territory. William was born in 1813 in Tenn. His wife, Rebecca Grumbles was born about 1813 in Arkansas-Missouri Territory. Attached is the letter; It might help in getting people to do the DNA Testing. I would like to know, too. Pat

He died in Youngstown, OH on June 4, 1928. He was my great-grandfather. He was married to Martha Wellington Woodall. Joe had 3 sons and 4 daughters, my Granfather (fathers father) was his son, William. I found him on the US census from 1890-1920, and I thought I found him on the 1871 UK census in Dudley, West Midlands. Joseph Woodall was a very common name back then, and there were several born in that parish in that year. I was able to find a man who I thought was my third cousin- his great-grandfather was the brother of the Joe Woodall I found on the UK census, but after DNA testing on FamilytreeDNA.com it looks like there is only a 10% chance we had a common ancestor in the last 6 generations. Not promising. I don't know anything about Joe's life in England, other than the year of his birth and what was on the death certificate. Here is a link to the obituary I found: http://fam! ily.webshots.com/photo/1388817562014819412pXNQuS

    3. Have you read the book "Woodalls of Talbot, Abner and Sallie Baugh Woodall" by Magaret Woodall Browne? If you contact me, at rwsewell@yahoo.com I can tell you how to get a book. I know she still has a few books and I think they cost around $40 -$45.
