    3. We may have spoke before. If so forgive my short memory. My great grand father was a Moore/Woodall descendant and his sister Ider or Ida married a Getts. They live in Blount or St Clair County Al. The have descendants named Shirley and Gay. Their grandmother was Mariah or Ameriah Woodall who Married Archibald Moore in 1837 in St Clair Count Al. Mike I spoke to you, woody or some other relative about meeting them and going to the restaurant and museum in Springdale, St Clair county in early June. He said there were the founders of Springdale and their is a restaurant with their names carved on the wall. Was that you. My Moores and Woodalls are from that area and all their graves are there. I really look forward to getting by there in early June. Thanks. 1. [WOODALL] Allen Francis Woodall buried at "Florence's English Cemetery". Cemetery to be closed. Sign Petition!
    2. Jeff Woodall
    3. Hi Friends & relatives, We have just read and signed the petition: "Florence's English Cemetery" There are some famous artist buried there such as Eliz Barrett Browning. If you go to this link you will be amazed by the beauty of this cemetery. www.florin.ms/americantombs.html<http://www.florin.ms/americantombs.html> In the cemetery is buried a man by the name of Allen Francis Woodall was from or born in Lexington KY. (jpeg of his tombstone below) He died 1864 or 1865 in Florence, Italy, 37 years old. He married Norma Pierucci from Italy. She died in 1864, 22 years old. they also had a small son who died and is buried there. Hiram Powers was one of the earliest of the pioneering American sculptors who journeyed to Italy because of vital resources that were absent in America: skilled artisans, live models, abundant supplies of marble from the quarries at Carrara and Seravezza, and, in the case of Florence, a city where the tradition of studying human anatomy had been alive since the Renaissance. When he set up a studio there in 1837, Lorenzo Bartolini urged him to reject the neo-classical approach in favour of the new doctrine of verismo, which attempted to capture the spontaneity and truth of nature by working from live models rather than copying from the antique. Powers settled with his family in an area of sculptors' studios and remained in Florence for the rest of his life. His home and studio became a focal point for the Anglo-American community, so that his vast correspondence gives us valuable insights into a city and a society that underwent profound changes during his life-time. In many ways he acted as unofficial consul, an aspect of his career that is given due weight in Clara Dentler's unpublished biography, and in this role one of his duties was to answer queries from relatives of Americans who had died in Florence. "A more beautiful spot could hardly be found," he wrote of the cemetery at Porta al Pinti; "It is against the outer wall of the city & it looks more like a beautiful garden than a place of the dead. But tell Mrs.Woodall that all this is nothing, for her dear husband is not there now, nor are my children there. Earth has received her own but the soul is not here." (1) 1) HP to Rev. C. George Currie, 1 September 1864 (Dentler typescript, p.126). I am grateful to Jeffey Begeal for allowing me to quote from his transcription of Clara Dentler's unpublished work White Marble: The Life and Letters of Hiram Powers, Sculptor in the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. Please help by signing this petition. It takes 30 seconds and will help greatly. 1. [WOODALL] Was Jehu Woodall Adopted? Woodall DNA test results do not match Group 1!
    2. Jeff Woodall
    3. I am with the Woodall DNA Project. We recently received the results in from a descendant of Jehu. His results indicate Haplogroup I1a All of the other Woodall descendants of Wm Woodall b abt 1710 & his son Charles Woodall b. 1732 who have tested match & belong to the R1b group. We are puzzled why this man (paper rail to Jehu) does not match the others. There had been stories passed on through Jehu's family line that Jehu was part Indian (DNA testing would show haplogroup Q3 for males with Indian blood) . Now what does this say about Jehu's line? These results indicate that somewhere in Jehu's line there was an adoption into the Woodall family of a male whose paternal DNA didn't come from William Woodall b abt. 1709. There are 2 possible explanations for this: 1- Jehu Woodall was adopted into the family of Elizabeth Black & Charles Woodall. Jehu could've been a relative (son of Elizabeth's sister or brother for instance, meaning his paternal DNA would be different) or Jehu could've been a neighbor's child who was adopted by Charles & Elizabeth Woodall because his birth parents died from illness, accident, Indian attacks, etc. I think this is the most likely scenario because although we have the record of Charles & Elisabeth's marriage in the Goochland VA Parish in 1765, & records of the births of their other children at the same parish starting in 1768, NO BIRTH RECORD of Jehu Woodall has other been found in Goochland or anywhere else. But, Jehu obviously belongs to this family since land, tax, census, & marriage records always show him living near this clan of Charles Woodall. 2-The other possibility is that somewhere further down along the line between Jehu to the participant who took the DNA test, that there was some sort of an adoption. The only way to determine which of these scenarios is true would be to have other male descendants of Jehu take the DNA test. For instance, if a 3rd cousin of this man took the test, & the DNA matched, it would indicate that the adoption took place with their common ancestor (2nd great grandfather) or someone further back then that. If their DNA didn't match then that would mean their 2nd great grandfather or someone more recent than that was the adoptee. Our best option for solving this puzzle would be to get a descendant of Jehu's other son/grandson to take the test. Then we would know whether the adoption took place in this line or with Jehu himself. This is the paper trail of the descendant of Jehu: William Woodall b. abt 1709>Charles Woodall b. 1732>Jehu Woodall b.1767 VA>John Woodall b. 1811 Lincoln Co, KY >James Leondogist (Leonodus) Woodall b. 1839 Lawrence Co., IN >James Madison Woodall b. 1864 Sullivan Co., IN These are the sons of Jehu according to Ruth Ransford Mason's Woodall book: Jehu Woodall b. ca. 1796, James Woodall b. 1804, John Woodall b. 1811, Perry Woodall b. 1815, Joel Woodall b. 1817, & George Washington Woodall b. 1821. If you descend from any of these men we need you to take a DNA test. Please email me. Thanks, Jeff Woodall
