    2. Mike: I have a death certificate that says he was born and died in Blackcreek Twsp. Mercer Co. Oh. But he was married and lived quite a few years after that in Fairfield County, Hocking Twsp. Oh. So I have a great question in my mind that maybe he was born in Fairfield County. His wife's family went to Mercer County several years before Henry went. It seems strange that his wife's family would go to the county the was born in. Maybe not. But it is a question. Oh, his wife was alive for many years after he was, so I would assume she gave the death information. Any help?? Sally

    3. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ B E P R E P A R E D F O R T H E W O R S T ___________________________________________________________ I want to bring up a subject that most people don't even think about while doing their genealogy research. Most every genealogist who reads this list has some sort of computer software to record their data. Some receive a spiffy new program and in our excitement start typing in all the information we had cluttered about on paper. Once it in there we throw the hard copies away and continue on our day-to-day entering, pruning and corrections of data. But what if one day you go to turn on the computer and nothing happens? The possibility of a hard drive crash is frightening to everyone with a computer but are you prepared? Will all the data you have typed in diligently for the past two years be lost forever? Many of us assume that people make BACKUPs of their main databases but the truth is that most people DON'T until it's too late! What I do is keep a copy of my program on a separate disk. AND backup all database changes on a floppy as I do them. Not only do I do this but also e-mail a file attachment of my updated gedcom to a friend in another state for safe keeping. Why do I send a copy to a friend out of state? Let's say I keep a copy of the files with my next door neighbor. It won't do me any good if we have a tornado rip through the neighborhood and hits both houses. Or if we have a wide spread flood. With the miles between us it will be safer than a local contact. Then consider the fact of what will happen to your work if something happens to you? Will those who are left behind know what to do with your work? Is it labeled and have you left addresses and instructions on who to contact just in case? Without a disk, will your partner know how to access the information on the computer and download it? Keep these things in mind because we as a society as a whole take too many things for granted and are never prepared! Don't let your information get lost in time... 1. George and Philip Wolfe, etal.
    2. It seems many are after info on George and/or Philip Wolfe in the late 1700's. I have been in touch with Steven Wolfe on this. Here is what I have--strickly from the ICI files out of the local Family History Center. George Wolf(e) , born 4 April 1781 to Philip and Mrs. Margaret Wolfe in Bedford Co.,Bedford TWP.,PA. [ Notice that Philip may have married a Mrs. Margaret Wolfe--she had been married to another Wolfe apparently]. George married Rebecca Simpson and they had children--including one Calven, born 13 Feb. 1805 (somewhere). Philip and Mrs Margaret had at least 6 children, all born in Bedford/ Co.,PA. I have identified the following: George-1781. John and Rebecca born 1785, Mary born Abt 1788, Joseph born Abt. 1792 and James born 1797. You all may want to examine whether this Philip is the Philip Jacob born 19 May, 1756 in Bucks Co.,PA. to Philip Jacob and Christine. Steven is right, there are amny Georges and Philips; so many from Pa. and to there from VA. or WVA. Now , for my search. I am looking for details on one Mr. Wolfe who married Martha Clifton [ could have been in N.C. or Tenn. or points between ]. They had a son Iraneous on 24 May, 1825 in Nashville,TN. and a daughter born in Apr. 1830, Wayne(s)town , Montgomery Co. IN. I have rather good information on the children of Iraneous and Margaret Switzer [ they were married 2 Aug. 1848 in Montgomery Co., IN.]. I don't know of any siblings of "Mr." Wolfe, but have fair information on Martha Clifton's family. Would appreciate any help I can get.!!! Harve Wolfe HWLobo@aol.com

    3. I checked out the names and cities, states in your msg. and while some looked close I was unable to make a match except for Miami Co., Ohio. The Barnabas DeWeese family lived for a short time in Miami Co. and as you can see the Wolfe family moved with them to Illinois and then to Kansas. Check out http://www.calweb.com/~wally/darke/surname1.htm and look for DeWeese. It will show a little more of the families. Mary Catherine "Kate" /DeWEESE/ was born in Miami Co. on 3 Oct. 1868 and John Wesley /DeWEESE/ was born in Coles County, Illinois on 25 Sep. 1871 Note the address with Nan Williams in #9 below. She knows much more then I do of the Wolfe family. I hope that the more detail of this list will help you. Take care and hope to hear of a match. 3. I am looking for help on the ancestors of Jacob Wolf and Hannah Kinsey Wolf. This litter scketch of Jacob and Hannah and some references will give you a view of where I am in this search. Help! Thanks, Derald Morgan Jacob Wolf served in the War of 1812 as a teamster, hauling supplies for the army between Dayton and Fort Wayne, furnishing his own team of four horses. He was protected by only one bodyguard on this long and dangerous drive. One night while in a dense forest, they stopped to cook coffee and attempted to start the fire by placing powder in the pit of the flint musket. The fire flashed into the lock, causing a load report. They were terribly frightened, thinking that the Indians would find them. But they were not disturbed. He was as honorably discharged soldier and his wife received a pension after his death. While a teamster and upon arriving at Fort Wayne with his supplies, the officers would mess with him, and he would make chocolate for the mess as they were very fond of it. He served for three years in the army, and one night after his return from a trip to Dayton his horses were stolen at Fort Wayne. He was then allowed to return to his home. Came to Ohio in 1805 probably from Virginia Burried at the Grotto Spring on the property of the Old Soldiers Home. Served in the war of 1812. A genealogical Index of Pioneers in the Miami Valley, Ohio by Lindsay M Brien, 1970 p 188 indicates that Jacob came to Ohio in 1806 from Virginia and that his son John married Hettie Helsel. In application for Veterans benfits Elizabeth Wolf (2nd wife) states that Jacob Wolf served in the war against Great Britain declared by the US on the 18th day of June 1812. The application states that Jacob Wolf was a Teamster in the company commanded by David Dunken, Wagon Master under Perry Taylor Quarter Master in the Regiment of Ohio Malitia Commanded by Col James Findley. She further states that he enlisted at Miamisburgh,Ohio on the 10th day of May 1812 and was honorably discharged at the Maumee Rapids on the 30th day of June 1812. Other testimony from others who served with him, states that he served on more than one occasion and at the time they knew of his service it was under the direction of James Thompson Wagon Master General and Perry Taylor Quarter Master in the Regiment commanded by Col. James Findly in General (Hull's) Army. They further state that he was drafted both at Cincinnati and at Miamisburgh, Ohio. Jacob Wolf served in the War 0f 1812 as a Teamster in the company commanded by David Dunken, Wagon Master under Perry Taylor Quarter Master in the Regiment of Ohio Militia, commanded by Col. James Findley. He volunteered at Miamisburg, Ohio on or about the 10th day of May 1812 and was honorably discharged on or about the 30th day of June 1812. 2. Steve, This is Harve Wolfe--haven't sent off the stuff to you yet but plan to very soon. Will send it by mail. On your George Wolf(e). The ICI for Pennsylvania has one Georg born to a Philip Wolf and Margaret Wolf in 1781 in Bedford TWP.,Bedford, PA. Next entry shows George marrying Rebecca Simpson, but they don't know the date because they say Abt. 1781. Also, the Tenn. record shows Calven born on 13 Feb. 1805 to George and Rebecca. It does not say where in TN... Does that help at all??? Harve
