I would love to talk with my maternal g grandmother Ellen Caroline Wolf Sanders Karney. Ellen and her twin sister Nancy J. Wolf were b. Nov. 28, 1840 in Johnson Co., Ar. to parents Andrew Davis and Lucinda Wolf. The girls had an older brother named Tobias Washington Wolf and an older sister named Sarah Wolf. Their father was dead by 1845. I know that Ellen was in Tx. by age 4 from info given on her Civil War widow's pension application. I would love to ask her who she came to Tx. to live with; as I can not find her until she is grown and the widow of Jessee Alex Sanders with two, possibly three, small children. What happened to her mother after the death of her father? Did she possibly remarry and is listed under another surname? What was her mother, Lucinda's maiden name, and where was she born? Were her paternal grandparents named Phillip P. and Elizabeth Barnes Wolf? The young widow Ellen then married in Hopkins Co., Tx. to my g grandfather, an Irish immigrant named John David Karney who was a widower with three small children. The couple then had eight more children. Ellen made beautiful pieced quilts until her eyesight was gone in her later years. She was a lovely older woman in the one copy of an old portrait that I have of her. How wonderful it would be to spend a day just talking and listening to the many stories which she could tell!
