Noted events in her life were: * Obituary: : Crockett, Texas Houston County. MASS FUNERAL HELD FOR MOTHER AND 4 CHILDREN Mass funeral services were held at the Jim English Cemetery, near Crockett, Saturday afternoon for a mother and four children, all of whom were burned to death Friday when kerosene exploded as the mother sought to start a fire in an open fireplace in their apartment at Crockett. Dead were Mrs. Karie Wagley; Cover Newell Wagley, age 7; Katherine Wagley, age 4, Melvin Wagley, age 2; and Connie Lynn Wagley, age nine months. The tragedy occured about 7 a. m. Friday, as the mother and children bundled in front of the fireplace while Mrs. Wagley tried to start a fire. As she poured kerosene onto the wood, Mrs. Wagley evidently did not realize the presence of "live" coals. There was a flash and the explosion sent flaming kerosene all over the room, transforming the woman and her children into human torches. Mrs. Wagley and her oldest son, Cover Newell, managed to get out of the house, but Mrs. Wagley lived only a short while. Conscience until the last, she was able to tell hospital attendents a little about the tragedy. Katherine, Melvin and Connie Lynn were burned to death on the spot. Cover Newell, who got outside of the house with his mother, died early Saturday. Mr. Wagley, the husband, was in Gatesville about midnight Friday when he learned that his entire family had been wiped out. He got home just an hour after the oldest son expired about 3 a. m. Saturday. Two other families living in the house escaped unhurt, but lost all household effects. The house belonged to Holcomb Green. Children from this marriage were: + 12 M i.
