The Davis News Davis, Murray County, Oklahoma July 18, 1929 Death Claims MRS. JAMES REEDY UNCLE MAT WOLF Passed Away Friday MAT WOLF Sr., aged 78, pioneer Davis cattleman, died in Oklahoma City last Friday at 1 a.m. ‘Uncle Mat,’ as he was known to all who knew him, had been in a hospital at Oklahoma City for several weeks, suffering with Bright’s disease. Mr. Wolf was a true old-timer, having come to this country 53 years ago and had a wide number of acquaintances and friends over the state. He was born in Dobyville, Poke County, Texas, Sept. 17, 1851. In 1875 he moved to the Chickasaw Nation to engage in the cattle business, with which he had been connected in Texas. In 1877, Mr. Wolf, married MISS ELLEN HOWELL, a sister of DR. T. P. HOWELL, and to this union, were born five children. Three survive; MRS. METTIE SADDLER, MRS. WILL SHORT and MAT WOLF jr, all of Davis. He had two brothers, JOE WOLF and HENRY WOLF, and one sister, MRS. ELLEN CHAMBLESS, all of Burnet County, Texas. Besides being one of the state’s most prominent cattle raisers, Mr. Wolf had large general farming interests and was, at one time, president of the First National Bank at Davis. Funeral services at the First Methodist Church were conducted by REV. F. A TUCKER, assisted by REV. A. N. JULIEN and REV. J. S. FERGUSON. Burial was at Green Hill cemetery. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were: JOSEPH WOLF of Centerville, Texas; MRS. LORETTA STONE of Marlow; JOSEPH CAMP of Pauls Valley; MRS. ROSE HOOVER, Mr. and Mrs. TOM BLYTHE of Wynnewood, and SAM P. HALE of Ardmore.
