    1. RE: WOLF-D Digest V04 #69
    2. The Wolfes
    3. My earliest known Wolf is John Wolf b 1802 in Harrison Co. WV (then VA) married to Permilia Kyser b 1802. They were married 1/8/1821 in Harrison Co. I have some circumstantial data that John's parents were John Wolf (b about 1756) and Elizabeth Toler (b about 1760) and married 12/23/1800. This would have been John Wolf's second marriage (at least) and Elizabeth's third. From John and Permilia (Kyser) Wolf, my lineage is as follows: Edgar Mandlebert Wolf (12/17/1843-2/25/1931) m 8/6/1865 to Nancy Woodford (2/22/1840-8/6/1936) Albert Barnstaple Wolfe (3/4/1874-2/17/1960) m 6/27/1897 to Estella Jane Hardman (1/6/1878-6/19/1968) Walter Hardman Wolfe (5/13/1898-11/16/1969) m 8/15/1917 to Norma Leslie Dunning (7/26/1895-11/11/1959) Walter Dunning Wolfe (8/10/1922- ) m 8/1/1946 to Dorothea Louise Miller (11/30/1927-2/8/1984) me -----Original Message----- From: WOLF-D-request@rootsweb.com [mailto:WOLF-D-request@rootsweb.com] Sent: Thursday, May 20, 2004 7:11 AM To: WOLF-D@rootsweb.com Subject: WOLF-D Digest V04 #69

    1. Wolf, Wolfe, Wolff of Greene County, Ohio
    2. I'm looking for info on William Wolf (Wolff), son of David and Catherine Harner Wolf of Greene County, Ohio. He was born in 1838. I haven't been able to find any information on when or where he died. He was still living on his parents' farm in Beaver Creek Township in 1870 according to the census and he is mentioned in his father's will in 1879. Also need info on Albert W. Wolf, born 1856. He may be the son of William or he may have been indentured to the above-mentioned David and Catherine, as he was living in their household by 1860. Even a small clue would be greatly appreciated, as this is a huge brick wall! Gay Oltjenbruns GAWolfe1947@aol.com

    1. ANDREW DAVIS WOLF
    2. Sarah Stevens
    3. I am looking for any links to my gg grandfather ANDREW DAVIS WOLF b. 8 Feb. 1806 in Tn. thought to be the son of PHILIP P. and ELIZABETH BARNES WOLF. A.D. Wolf m. LUCINDA and was found on 1840 Johnson Co., Ar. census. He had d. by 1845 when I found Lucinda Wolf listed as the widow of A.D. Wolf. That timeframe ties with my g grandmother ELLEN CAROLINE WOLF SANDERS KARNEY's application for Civil War Widow's pension statement which says that she was in Tx. by age 4 years. I have been able to locate few facts on this family. I find my g grandmother only after she is grown and m. in Tx. I have located four known children of Andrew Davis and Lucinda Wolf. A son b. in Tn. was named TOBIAS WASHINGTON WOLF. Three daughters were named SARAH, ELLEN CAROLINE, and her twin MARTHA J. WOLF. (An old letter also mentions another child named SALLIE, but it is not known if she is another child or possibly just another name for Sarah.) These four children all were found in the Upshur ! Co., Tx. area in later years, with Ellen and Martha finally settling with families in nearby Hopkins Co., Tx. 1840 census lists 4 male children and 5 female children in the household of A.D. and Lucinda. Tobias Wolf is found with his family in Scott Co., Ar. on 1860 Census. He is living next door to a HENRY WOLF and family who is 11 yrs. older, but also b. in Tn. Nearby is also a JOHN WOLF who is seven yrs. older than Tobias and also listed as b. in Tn. It has also been suggested, but not proven, that another family in Scott Co. with a head of the family named WILLIAM ANTHONY who is m. to Ann said to be ANN WOLF ANTHONY who was 3 yrs. older than Tobias and thought to be one of the missing sisters. Tobias possibly moved to be close to other family while he served in the Civil War. He later returned to Upshur Co., Tx. where he lived the remainder of his life. Any help or suggestions on this WOLF family would be greatly appreciated.

    1. George Washington Wolf descendants (Scott county, Mississippi)
    2. George Washington Wolf (Mar 27, 1850- Aug 5 1935) married Martha Tillman (Aug 12, 1848 - Apr 22, 1910) and at some point moved to Scott county Mississippi where I find them in the 1880 census. children of George and Martha Wolf are William Gideon "Willie" Wolf (Apr 5 1873 - Dec 26, 1860), Mary Wolf (born about 1876), Ella Wolf (born about 1879), Jennie Wolf (born Jan 1881), Erline Wolf (born Oct 1882), Jessie Boyd Wolfe (Feb 16, 1887 - June 13, 1951), Dora Wolf (born Dec 1890). all the above are listed in census records as being born in Mississippi. The father of George Washington Wolf is listed in 1880 and 1900 as being from North Carolina but in the 1930 census as being from Mississippi. Believe it is Ella Wolf that married a Harrell and were the parents of the two Harrell nephews raised by William Gideon Wolf. William Gideon "Willie" Wolf married Virginia Leona "Jenny" Lang on Dec 21, 1898 and had 15 children Jewel (daughter), Lester (son) Ruby (daughter), Odelle (daughter), Mildred (my grandmother), Willie Mae (daughter), Curtis Wylie (son), Parks (son), living (daughter), Maggie Aline (daughter), living (son) and Duval (son) Jewel Wolf m. a Smith, Lester m. Onie B (unknown surname as yet), Ruby m. a Gordy, Odelle m. a Williams and had no children, Curtis is said to have had a son that died in an accident (no further information there), Parks married (unknown), Maggie Aline never married, Duval died as an infant. Burials: George Washington and Martha (Tillman) Wolf are buried at Pine Ridge cemetery in Newton county, Mississippi. also buried there are Mary E Wolfe (1875-1891)- possibly/probably the daughter Mary of George and Martha Duval Wolf is also buried at Pine Ridge cemtery William Gideon and Virginia Leona Wolf along with son and daughter Curtis Wylie Wolf and Maggie Aline Wolf are buried at Ephesus church cemetery in Scott county Mississippi Jessie Boyd Wolfe and his wife Mary Annie (Stroud) along with their son Jessie Boyd Wolf Junior and his wife Mary Estelle are all buried at Salem church cemetery in Scott county Mississippi I know nothing further of the Harrells (sister and brother in law of William Gideon Wolf) except that it is said that William Gideon went to Texas and brought his nephews back which he subsequently raised. Mildred Wolfe married Mark Simmons Rape in 1934 (my grandparents) in Scott county Mississippi and are buried in Bossier City, Louisiana Note: both Wolf and Wolfe spellings are used in this family. There is a J. Wallace Wolfe that is said to be a brother of William Gideon and Jessie Boyd but I haven't proven that yet. Might be easy to do but I've only worked on them a little. Having my great-grandfather's correct name has increased the finds tremendously. There are other Wolfs in the area that I'm sure will tie into mine sooner or later. Have a great day. Rhonda

    1. Johannes Wolf fr.Bessarabia, Russia
    2. John & Connie Benson
    3. I'm researching Johannes (John) Wolf and later added an f to Wolff. He was born December 2, 1883 in Leipzig, Bessarabia, Russia, and was baptized in Tarutino, Russia. His parents were Christian Wolf and Anna Marie Finkbainer. He immigrated to the U. S. in approximately 1899 and went to ND to live with his sister and husband, Karoline and Sam Kautz. From searching GRHS I have determined he is the 10th child. His sister, Rebekka Wolf, born Oct 13, 1869 Married Christian Hintz in Tarutino, Bess.,Russia and was still living there when he came to the U.S. He had a brother Christian Wolf born August 28, 1878, in Tarutino, but do not know when he died or where. I have not been able to find out anything about Christian Wolf and Anna Marie Finkbeiner's parents. The only record I have found is their marriage date of January 3, 1863, in Kloestitz, Bessarabia, Russia. I would like to learn much more. benson@gwtc.net
