Interesting coincidence, though, of date, Wolfe name change, and marriage to a Tillman. I've been somewhat surprised at how easily people changed their last name spelling then. One of my wife's grandparents sat down with their siblings at one point to decide which of the four spellings that they were using among them (Stendel, Standel, Stendal, and Stendall) would be adopted by all of them.

I just realized I'm missing a couple of censuses there in between. I just went and found his tombstone this past weekend and funny that he buried his wife with the spelling "Wolf" but then when they buried him they went with "Wolfe" you'd think the kids would at least want to keep the married couple's spelling consistent even if the kids went with either spelling!

I have an ancestor George Wolf, born in Ohio, raised a family with Jane nee Cane in St. Joseph County IN. Jane died 1875 and George moved to Greer Co. OK between 1880 and 1900 with most of his children. Sometime between 1880 and 1900 he changed his name to Wolfe (perhaps at the move). His children were: Perry, Cyrus, Sarah J., Freeman,Charles H., Dabby?, Oliver, and Arthur. His daughter Sarah stayed with him, eventually married a Virgil Tillman in OK and moved to Jarosa CO where they raised a family. George stayed with them.
