Does anyone have any information on Mary THOMAS born about 1825 in Swansea I assume. All I know about her is that she was a little bit older than her husband James LANG from Countisbury, North Devon who was born 1827. They were married and had one daughter named Mary Elizabeth before they left to travel to NZ (out of Gravesend, London) in 1850. Mary's father was a Bootmaker in Swansea and Mary herself worked for a doctor, "helping him mix his medicines and drugs". I am trying to find out as much as I can on Mary. I don't know who her parents were, or whether she had any sibblings. I cannot find a marriage certificate in Devon, so I assume they were married in Swansea. Also does anybody know anything of the CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION (in 1849). The Archbishop was President of same and it was this association who toured the country and gave lectures about the new settlement being formed in New Zealand. All people who were urged to go to NZ had to have trades or professions and had to be of good character and reputation and be genuine members of the Church of England. That is all I know but any further information would be very much appreciated. Thankyou! Regards Kaye graphart@winshop.com.au
