    1. [Swansea] New lister's interests
    2. Hi All I have just found this list covering Swansea and am posting my interests in the area. The main one being - The surname RODERICK or RHYDDERCH as it was before it got anglised. My GGGG Grandfather Israel RHYDDERCH a shipwright and blockmaker was born in Swansea 31st March 1796 and Baptised 4th April 1796 at Swansea St.Marys. He moved around quite a lot over the years, Bristol, Gloucester, Cardiff and died 17th February 1883 at the Workhouse at St Thomas Swansea. I know that his father was William RHYDDERCH a carpenter and have made an assumption from the parish records of Swansea St Mary's that Israel's mother was a Mary WILLIAMS. As on 26th October 1784 there is an entry for a marriage between William RHYDDERCH and Mary WILLIAMS. There seem to have been RODERICKS in Swansea for many years prior to this as entries in the account book for the borough of Swansea 1640-1660 state- April 1646 Paid to David Retherech 17 daies work on the Towne halle 17 shillings. He was working with lathes nails lyme creasts and rafters. May 1646. Paid David Rytherch for mending Towne halle 10 shillings. Burgussis at May David Rytherch and John Rytherch. Feb 1657 Paid David Roderick for mending the Towne Halle. Also interested in the Pilots who worked the Channel from any port along it from Swansea to Gloucester. Including Cardiff and Bristol. Regards Phil Roderick (aka T.C.M.)

    3. Yeh Phil - T.C.M. Remember me? I got all excited when I saw your Roderick message on the Swansea list. I was going to put this new chap in touch with you, then found out it WAS you! I haven't been on the Glam list for ages but still get the odd message from the Swansea one. Remember all the fuss when it first came into being? The Glam-listers were up in arms. I have 'moved on' to Kent* - windmills and clay pipe makers - and am also haunting Bury, Lancashire where I am trying to find the birth of my g-grandmother. Her actual birth date is on her MI but not in the civil register. Bah! *lots more pilots based in Dover Hope you are keeping well and happy and still gardening. Did you ever get another Samoyed dog? Become t-total? I remember you used to have psychic feelings/connections/leanings? Have you seen John Edward's program, Crossing Over? I understand it is on Sky TV over there. Do have a look if you get the chance. He is a psychic medium. Got me convinced. We have my husband's cousin, from Denbigh, N. Wales, staying with us at the moment. My Welsh husband has spent most[?] of her visit watching the World Cup! All for now. Keep that Welsh flag flying. Best wishes, Diana-in-Canada
