    1. Re: [Swansea] what to believe?
    2. hi,oh dear! you appear to have the same problem as I had when trying to get info on my maternal ancestors. My great gandfather is listed on the 1881 census as William Jennett,on his marriage certificate he is listed as Frederic Jennett. On all the other censuses ,he is down as William .The inscription on his gravestone is William .To add to the confusion ,on my mother's birth certificate ,my gran is listed as being nee JEMMETT(not Jennet),. As my grt grandfather gave his place of birth as Hambleden (small village)in Bucks ,I have been most fortunate to receive info that, firstly ,there were no Jennett's there in the mid 1800's and to put the icing on the cake I have made contact with a distant cousin in New Zealand who has given me so much info on the Jemmett's .It appears that he was Frederic ,his brother was William. As his brother William married in Bucks (Fred came and married in Wales) I knew that he couldn't possibly be William .I have actually come to the conclusion that he must have been Frederic Wiliam or vice versa, or as they were such a big family he might have been confused as to his name (joke).Another possibility could be that he didn't want to be known as Frederic for some reason .To add to the confusion ,his age was different on census/certificates .This I can understand ,quite normal for people in those days not to know their exact age . The difference in surname is quite understandable ,mis -spelling quite common too . Hope you get to the bottom of it. regards Buddug Hollett
