I am reasonably able to trace my North Somerset/South Wales maternal predecessors where the surnames PHIPPS and BREWER are well represented. I have also had the good fortune of having recovered several mid - late 1800's and early 1900 photographs of the aforementioned surnamed persons. The most striking physical feature of both the male and female sides, is the 'Italian Look' which they all bear. Throughout my 70+ years I have repeatedly heard unsubstantiated chat from family members that there is an 'Italian Connection' Alas! To date I have been unsuccessful in finding the evidence to prove the point. Notwithstanding that, I have this week been passed a 1918 'BREWER' photograph which includes a baby of a very young age - I will guess less than 4 weeks old. The proud mother is Helen (Nellie) BREWER. The names of the baby include LaVARO. Are there List Members who have knowledge of name LaVARO slotting into a Welsh family with an Italian root? I shall be most grateful to receive advice on this matter. Alec Palmer. xvii. vii. mmii.
