    2. Hi Pat, As you've already found out, it is not possible to find the grave due to the bombing during ww2 and the almost complete flattening of Swansea. However you can find out the plot number and with a bit of detection work and if the church has a plan of the area when he was burried you may be able to find an apraximate site. Mind you it could be under C&A's, The Quadrant, Cross Keys Pub or even the middle of The dual carraige in front of St Marys ;-( Look on the bright side you also find that he could also have been burried with others whom he was related to that you know nothing of yet ;-) Hope this helps Brian Davies Swansea

    3. St Mary's Church, Swansea was almost completely destroyed in the 3-nights blitz in 1941, and rebuilt in the 1950s. Even very old tombs recorded in older guidebooks were so badly damaged by the heat they could not be restored, so it is fairly unlikely there will be many tombstones - I don't recall seeing any in the fairly small grass area around the church, but there may be some. 3. Hi Pat I don't know anything of your Parry,s. It is just that your surname is unusual. I have a connection with the Pitt,s. My family were originally from Gloucester. They were in Swansea in the early 1800, When my gr. grandad was born. My grandmother was Mary Anderson Pitt, she was born in 1876 .Do you think tyhat there is a connection.? In all of the censuse's that I have seen my Pitt family were the only Pitt's in Swansea Pat ---- Original Message ----- From: "Pat Pitt" <patpitt@oceania.net> To: <WLS-SWANSEA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 04, 2001 7:00 AM Subject: Re: [Swansea] re PARRY > Brian, I meant to ask the address of St Marys Cemetery, Swansea. 3. Hi Denise, Your gran's visitors book sounds fascinating. I dare say she had some famous visitors over the years. If you happen to find it, I'm sure the subscribers of my list would love to hear more details. I am completely ignorant regarding the history of the theatre in Swansea. If you, or any other listers, can provide information that might help with our theatrical research, please let me know. 3. Hi everybody, Do you have ancestors associated with the theatre or entertainment in general? Have you already researched them and could pass on your knowledge to others? Why not join the THEATRE-UK mailing list. How to subscribe. Send a message to THEATRE-UK-L-request@rootsweb.com or for Digest mode - THEATRE-UK-D-request@rootsweb.com that contains (in the body of the message) the command subscribe and no additional text. Researching family history can be difficult at the best of times. Researching ancestors who were actors, music hall performers etc. can be a real pain! They were never in one place for very long, they changed their names to suit themselves and very often they weren't particularly accurate about their age. This list is for the discussion of theatre history. The buildings, the troupes, the actors and players, the acts and the plays. With luck you might find the little snippet of information you need to track down your elusive ancestor, or maybe a list-member can provide you with some details of your ancestors career. 1. [Swansea] maritime records.
    2. hello My husbands grt grandfather Henry hollett and his family moved from Devon to Skinner Street in Sansea in the mid-late 1800. He was recorded as being occupied (tog with his wife Mary and his older boys ) in 1881 as being PATENT FUEL SHIPPER. Would anyone know if there are records kept in Swansea of vessels carrying this cargo? I don't know if they had their own vessel but 2 of the sons (my husbands grandfather being 1 ) became master mariners before they moved to the Garw valley. Diolch yn fawr/Thanks Buddug Hollett.

    2. Jane Greenfield
    3. Ellen Mary Jane CLEAVER was married to Edward Francis WEST in 1874, they both give their address as Clifton Row, Swansea. I have had no luck finding her birth registration yet (still looking) as the age she gave on her marriage certificate does not tally with subsequent census entries. However, my query is with her father Captain George CLEAVER. Does anyone have a Kelly's or Post Office directory for 1874 for the Swansea area? I would like to know whether he was an army captain or a sea captain or something else, or any information at all. Thank you, Jane
