    3. Hi, I am asking for some help with these family members from Swansea, Wales. I will appreciate any help any of you can offer. I will post to the WLS- Swansea list and the Glamorgan list in the hopes of this getting to someone who might know of these families. I am searching for John BEVAN and J. Annie NORRIS. These two people were my great-great-grandparents. This is what I know from my end. They came to US in 1852 and must have made more than one trip as the middle child was born back in Wales. The 1900 US census for Bridgeport township, North San Juan Town, Nevada County, California states: 1. John Bevan b. Jun 1828 age 72 married 40 years he and his parents born in Wales. From my mother's notes, we believe he was born in Swansea, So Wales. John Bevan's father was John Bevan mother was Elizabeth Jenkins. Swansea was where my grandmother said that John Bevan and J. Annie Norris were married in 1860. 2. J. Annie (Norris) Bevan b. 1840 age 59 she and both her parents born in Wales. Annie Norris's father was James Norris. Children: none listed in 1900 censes 3 shown in 1880 census: 1. H. William Bevan age 19 born California (Sebastopol) 2. J Annie Bevan age 12 born in Wales 3. E Elizabeth Bevan age 1 born in California (Sebastopol) She was called Ellen 1900 census states J Annie Bevan (the mother) had 4 children, two still living. My mom's notes mention an Elizabeth possibly having died in Wales. Son: H. William married E. J. Mc Cullough 30 Mar 1884 Daughter: J. Annie married Carl Anderson had a son born 12 Apr 1892 in Oregon Daughter: Ellen Elizabeth married Edward Clymo (He was born in California but parents both born in Camborne, Cornwall England) 28 Aug 1898. Their children were Merle Clymo b. 1899 (my grandmother). Hazel Clymo and Verna Clymo. This is long enough without going further down. I wanted to include some of this for the sake of people that children might have been named after. Thank you, Marilyn (Brown) Cathers

    1. [Swansea] Plasmarl Cemetery
    2. Alwyn Jenkins
    3. Cwmgelli Cemetery was opened in the late 1890's. Prior to this burials were at Danygraig Cemetery(e-mail with approx.year to swansea@cieh.org.uk for both, as they are under Local Authority Control). If they were Non Conformist there are a couple of Chapels with graveyards. If before Cwmgelli opened could be in Llangyfelach Parish Church. HJ

    1. [Swansea] THOMAS Mary born about 1825
    2. kaye sutherland
    3. Does anyone have any information on Mary THOMAS born about 1825 in Swansea I assume. All I know about her is that she was a little bit older than her husband James LANG from Countisbury, North Devon who was born 1827. They were married and had one daughter named Mary Elizabeth before they left to travel to NZ (out of Gravesend, London) in 1850. Mary's father was a Bootmaker in Swansea and Mary herself worked for a doctor, "helping him mix his medicines and drugs". I am trying to find out as much as I can on Mary. I don't know who her parents were, or whether she had any sibblings. I cannot find a marriage certificate in Devon, so I assume they were married in Swansea. Also does anybody know anything of the CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION (in 1849). The Archbishop was President of same and it was this association who toured the country and gave lectures about the new settlement being formed in New Zealand. All people who were urged to go to NZ had to have trades or professions and had to be of good character and reputation and be genuine members of the Church of England. That is all I know but any further information would be very much appreciated. Thankyou! Regards Kaye graphart@winshop.com.au
