According to census of 1881 in Swansea Town, Glamorgan, Wales, Evan Davies is married to Mary with four children. The children are Evan D., Martha, Mary H., and Ernest J. I know there are two more children born after this census, Albert and Stanley or Sidney. I know of Albert and his birth date, but we are lost on Stanley (or Sidney). We are not sure of his name. The family left Liverpool for the US in 1890. He had to be born before that departure we believe. Any help would be surely appreciated. thank you _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com
Hi: Please add me to this look up. My Grandmother's name was Jane Matthews and lived at Thornhill. My Mother was born there in 1877 and her name was Harriet Mary Walters Llewellyn. Yes, she married a Welshman. Named Arthur Llewellyn and his father's name was Llewellyn Llewellyn. Dad was born in Swansea in 1880. Any help much appreciated. Bette in Indiana

Thanks Jeff for doing the look up. No idea where they have disappeared to now. I wonder if any of the dressmakers you mention were married Davies?Justina worked as as dressmaker prior to her death. Maybe the daughters followed? Being orphans I suppose they went their separate ways. George joined the Welsh Fusiliers and went to India. James John was to follow him to India in the 1870's. David the elder brother was over there too.o idea of what happened to the girls. No I haven't been able to check any trade directory's - I would certainly appreciate any help in that direction. William Edward Davies a tailor? Swansea? When James John Davies was christened in 1864 (aged 13) the certificate states he was living in Swansea. The actual event took place in Carmarthen. They must be out there somewhere!!! I don't know if there has been more recent correspondence on this. Today in County Hall archives, Swansea I spotted an unusual folio book from Swansea St Mary's including sketches of a lot of headstones from the graveyard, linked to an index, as well as other lists such as those with curious causes of death. At the time I didn't remember what grave was being looked for, but knew someone wanted one. The drawings are dated 1858-1860 I think, so if Evan Parry had a gravestone it might be there. Incidentally, while at a concert in St Mary's before Christmas I noticed an interesting photographic display of the history of the Church and its double re-building - once in 1890s in latest Victorian style, and again after 1941 bombing. If anyone local is looking, the two volumes of the book were to the left of the St Mary's register copies. Hi I have checked the 1861 census - ref 4103 folio 37-38 p9-11 for Gomarian Place ( this spelling was used then, and in each census 1871, 81,1891. There was no-one living there with the surname Davies. It seems to have been a small street or court, with only 12 houses, and, judging by where it was enumerated, it must have been off the East side of Waterloo Street, possibly north of Temple Street. It is not shown either on the 1851 map in the 'Swansea Guide 1851' or the 1878 map on the wall of the Family History searchroom in County Hall. It was in the part of the centre of Swansea totally destroyed in the 1941 'three days blitz', and after the war the street pattern was completely different. If you know Swansea today it would probably be under David Evans Store, Princess Way or British Home Stores - as far as I can guess- if not the skateboard-infested white elephant known as Castle Square. I have a feeling that it may be shown in some of John Alban's history books about Swansea. Several occupants of Gomarian Place had occupations connected with sewing - I think a dressmaker and a milliner. I hope this is helpful. If you have not searched Swansea trade directories for later addresses, please let me and the rest of the list know. Hi Merry Christmas to all Thanks to Sandi in the USA I have been able to find my family on the Glamorgan 1851 census. Would anybody out there be able to check the 1861 census for Gomerian Place? Looking for William Davies , tailor and family, wife Margaret, children Sarah, Caroline, Daniel In the 1851 census he was living next door to his mother Justina, however she died in 1853 leaving 11 children as orphans. So perhaps William took in the younger siblings? James John born 1851, Charlotte 1847, Edward 1845, Sarah 1841, George 1838 apprentice tailor to William. It may be that the family remained in two houses looked after by older sisters Mary Ann or Anne? Is Gomerian Place still in existence? Any help much appreciated. The 1901 census for England and Wales will go on line the first week of January. You can search the index for free and see the actual census for a charge. You can read all about it at: http://www.pro.gov.uk/census/factsheet.htm I believe I announced this a couple of months ago but now that the time is getting closer, thought a new announcement would be appropriate. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002

I am sending this to anyone who has got on to my address book, for whatever reason. As it seems to add automatically to the address book anyone who has sent me an email and had a reply, you may not remember any contact with me. Apologies both if you got an infected email and if you didn't and I am worrying you unduly. This week I have received several copies of the BADTRANS virus. I thought I had caught all of them and got rid of them, but it looks as though some emails at least have been sent without my knowledge, with timings 20.06 and 21.27 approx 01/12/2001, UK time. If you got an earlier email from me today, it is probably best to delete it, while your computer is disconnected from the telephone system, so that it can't send further virus copies without your knowledge. I have not sent any emails today which have attachments. I strongly suggest you get your antivirus software updated, and don't open any emails with attachments you are not expecting. Jeff This is information about this virus from McAfee ============================================= McAfee.com has received an increasing number of reports from home users with a new variant of Badtrans, referred to as Badtrans.b. AVERT has raised the Risk Assessment on this variant of W32/Badtrans@MM to HIGH RISK FOR CONSUMERS. VirusScan and other McAfee products with DAT files 4172 and higher are protected from this variant. W32/Badtrans@MM is a mass-mailing worm that drops a remote-access Trojan. The virus arrives via the Microsoft Outlook email program and attempts to send itself by replying to unread email messages. The email may contain the text "Take a look to the attachment" in the message body and will contain an attachment that is 13,312 bytes in size. Hello Shirley, Rutland Street no longer exists. The Roman Catholic Church could be St.David's, which is in that vicinity & still open. I think the Mountain Dew in Mount Pleasant is still there. Not sure if the Mile End is still open, as a few have closed in last couple of years. Try www.royalmail.com or www.ukvillages.co.uk I don't have 1881 Census, which is indexed. The 1891 is being indexed at the moment. Try the Glamorgan lookup exchange on http://home.clara.net/tirbach/lookup.html as they're a very helpful bunch of people. Brian, Thank you for this, Ok, so I'm not Mary, but we are related :o) I've checked and our actual relationship is that her husband is my second cousin once removed! The first family you sent show THOMAS GREGORY and his son THOMAS GREGORY. Strangely, both married women named MARGARET. Thomas the younger is my great, great grandfather, and Mary's great grandfather-in-law, he had 16 children, the youngest of which, Blodwen, is my great grandmother, the oldest, John, is Mary's husband's grandfather. The second family MUST be related! They live in the same parish. Could Thomas the elder be brother to John??? Something I must look into (any ideas as to how to do this would be greatly appreciated!)
