    3. Well, here it is the day before Easter, it is only noon and already I have had five (5) of these virus messages sent to me today. I don't know the lists they are coming from but the messages are from all over the world the last one was from someone in New Zealand. Now beware of this one because it looks official from Microsoft. Here is how it starts: From: Microsoft Corporation Security Center Subject: Internet Security Update Message: Microsoft Customer, this is the latest version of security update, the update which eliminates all known security vulnerabilities affecting Internet Explorer and MS Outlook/Express as well as six new vulnerabilities It then goes on to tell you to open the attachment to make the so-called update. THE ATTACHMENT IS THE VIRUS, DON'T OPEN IT! Sorry, I yelled, but I am getting tired of people opening attachments no matter how many times I send these warnings. If you get one of these, delete it, don't even read it! The North Dock, the original course of the river Tawe, was filled in, largely with rubble from the 1941 3-nights blitz, and Toys-R-Us and the rest of the Parc Tawe shopping centre stand on it. The way in to the North Dock from the tidal river was through two locks, between which was the (North Dock) Half Tide Basin. Sainsbury's is built on this filled in site, with the car park extending over the old Central Graving Dock and the Weaver's flour store site. Visitors to the store may notice cast iron bollards, originally for tying up ships, retained, though I think moved. The piers from the 'Vale of Neath' railway bridge across the 'New Cut' are still there in the river, visible from the [1896?] New Cut bridge as you drive in to Swansea from the east. So if you are stuck in a traffic queue on your way to St. Helen's rugby ground, or the Vetch Field <bg>, ponder on the railway disaster at the spot over 136 years ago! Glamorgan Archives used to sell a reprint of the 1897 25-inch-to-the-mile OS map of central Swansea, and the recent highlight on copyright would limit any attempt to scan bits of it. Jeff

    3. Hello everyone The Free Census project aims to transcribe ALL the UK 19th century census returns to create an online 'free-to-view' database. Currently we have nearly 50 projects covering a county or part of a county. All but one are English, the only Welsh project covers Anglesey. The first Scots project is in the pipeline. We would dearly love to hear from anyone who would be willing to organise a Welsh county project. All the support you need will be provided including microfiche and software. The Index of UK photographers at http://www.users.waitrose.com/~rodliffe now has entries for 1884, 1910 & 1920.     3. I have lost the trail for my 2xgreat grandfather Henry EVANS. I know that he was living at Ross (HEF) around 1855, a jobbing gardener, and married to Mercy CLEAVER, who was born at Tetbury in Gloucestershire c 1824. My great grandfather Albert Joseph was born at Ross in 1859. If anyone recognises Henry I would be most grateful to hear from them. Stan Rodliffe

    3. This one is suppose to be a big one. W32.MyLife@mm is a simple mass-mailer that sends itself to all contacts in the Microsoft Outlook address book. The worm is a compiled Visual Basic executable that has been compressed. It attempts to delete files that have the extensions .com, .sys, .ini, .exe, .sys, .vxd, .exe, or .dll. (This could not be reproduced in a controlled test environment.)     3. The 1881 census had the Evan DAVIES family living at 3 Hopkin Terr Swansea Town, Glamorgan, Wales. Everyone in the family is accounted for except Albert Davies and a Sidney Davies. Albert, I have records of being born in the yr 1883. Sidney has been a problem. The exsisting family members know of his name, but nothing else. I have photographs of him but without dates. I do believe he had to have been born after 1883. The father was William Vaughan born 1807, who married Elizabeth, I dont know what her madien name is. He had four children, Hugh Vaughan born 1830, Ann Vaughan born 1832, Elizabeth Vaughan born 1834 and Catherine Vaughan born 1840. What I would like to know is does any one know where William, Elizabeth and Hugh Vaughan are buried. Hugh Vaughan died in 1874. The Vaughans had a colourful charaters.     2. My maternal g.g.grandfather was GEORGE BREWER born circa 1858 in Bath. In his teens he was sent to a Reformatory School at Kingswood (presumably Bristol) and a Training Ship. I have a photograph of him wearing a naval type uniform 'of the day' when aged I will guess, circa 13 - 14yrs.. . I have an original (albeit rather tattered) legal document which amounts to a ROYAL PARDON. It is addressed to K. Bartram, Esq., (Barrister at Law) 5. Northumberland Buildings, Bath. It reads as follows. Whitehall. 13 February 1873 Sir: 19.755 The Secretary of State for the Home Department having considered your application in behalf of GEORGE BREWER, I have the satisfaction to acquaint you that he has felt warranted under all the circumstances in advising Her Majesty to remit the remainder of the prisoner's sentence. I am Sir, Your Obedient Servant. Family rumour has it that at a time (date unknown) prior to George Brewer being 'sent down' - the River Avon at Bath had flooded parts of the City. The story goes that young George saw a person drowning and heroically/successfully dived into the flooded Avon to rescue that person. For this act I am told The City of Bath awarded him a Parchment Manuscript in recognition of his brave act. It would appear that at an Appeal in regard to Reform School 'Sentence', the aforementioned Parchment was produced, and on the strength of this the ROYAL PARDON was granted. Does a List Member have an idea where/how I might find evidence of the City of Bath presenting GEORGE BREWER with a Parchment Manuscript - presumably at a date prior to 13th. February 1873.
