Hi,Heather, St Matthews was built on the site of St Johns in 1887,about the time that there was a lot of reorganisation and building of churches in the town.Previously, there were only St Marys & St Johns and three outside - Llangyfelach,Llansamlet & Oystermouth. If I find any more info I will let you know. Regards, Tom
Hello Tom Yes, I have now been informed that the St John's Swansea register's are in the process of being indexed. They are awaiting checking and should be released later this year which is good news. I am not sure though if they will help me as it is really the banns book I am after. My Anne Mainwaring married James Thomas in Llanarthney parish church Carmarthenshire on 19th June 1846. I have a copy of the marriage lines. Another Mainwaring researcher said that they were married in St John's Swansea on the same date? I think that James Thomas may have had the banns read in St John's if this was his parish church, but it is a bit strange don't you think? I need to check it out. Are you saying that St John's church has been pulled down and St Matthews has been built on the same site? Why did they change the name of the church any idea? Regards Heather Hi, Heather, The St John's registers are in the West Glamorgan R.O. in Swansea. I understood that the Glamfhs were producing them on microfiche.St Matthews is now on the same site near High St station. Regards, Tom
Hello Everyone, I am new to this list and hope SKS can help me a bit. I live in Yorkshire so am not able to do much researching in South Wales, so hear goes let me tell you if my Welsh connections. My gggrandfather Andrew Pollard died in 1863 in Wainarlwydd near Swansea and I think that my gggrandmother married again to some one called William Lewis who also left her a widow. I beleive her to be living in 1881 at Gower Road,Lougher, her name being Sarah Lewis. Her eldest daughter was married to a Benjamin Howells she was also called Sarah, and they had the General Shop and Post Office at Gower Road. They had in 1881 three sons William P. aged 12 Arthur Lewis aged 10 Herbert E aged 3mths If anyone else is researching this family I would be glad to hear from them or anybody having the 1891 census with more info on it would be very helpful. Thanks in anticipation Anne P Wigglesworth

Hi, I see you have Watkins as part of your name. Have you done any research for Watkins? My Grandmother was Mary Anne Watkins married to my Grandfather Llewellyn Llewellyn and I am trying to find out more about her. thanks, Bette
Hi All I am trying to trace this name. Woollard. What I found so far is Zachariah Priest Woollard - came from Cambridge and he went benkrupt and came to Swansea. He was a Corn Factor. His son Frederick Coles Woollard - he was a potatoe dealer and a beer house keeper he was born in 1819 and dead in 1859. He was married to Ann Vaughan. Their son. This is where I am having diffculties finding information about him. This is what I have so far. Frederick Woollard - he was born in 1856 and he married Ann, not sure what her maiden name is. He was a butcher in the slaughter house in Swansea. They had three children. Fred John (1877), Catherine (1879) and Maria (1880). This is information I have found on the 1881 census, but in 1891 census they have dispeared. So any information on these people will be warmly received Many thanks Charles _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com
I have put off sending this out but just got four virus messages and decided to bother all of you again. This virus is a real pain because it not only gets the email address it sends it to out of the computer's address book but also puts another address from the book in the "from" part of the email. Sometimes I have received them that said they were from Rootsweb and, of course, no attachments can ever be sent through Rootsweb. My virus program has pick them all up and you can view the description of the virus here: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.klez.h@mm.html Again. DO NOT OPEN ATTACHMENTS. If you use Outlook, keep your program up to date. Check out the Microsoft website so you can download all new patches. These virus/worms seem to attack Outlook most often. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, listowner http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002
