    3. Hi Tom, Thank you very much for the info on the HOWELL family it is a great help , it is very awkward trying to find them as I am up in Yorks. You don't know any one who has the 1861 census do you as I am trying to find when the Family (POLLARD) came down to Wales the Father died there in 1863 but I don't know much more than that. I also think that his wife married again to a William Lewis in Lougher as in 1881 Elizabeth Mainwood was living with a Sarah Lewis who was the right age and was born in Adderbury -So if you can put me in touch with any one who has the1861 cen I would be very pleased. Thanks ever so Anne Wigglesworth ---- Original Message ----- From: <Tomthechair@aol.com> To: <WLS-SWANSEA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 13, 2002 3:56 PM Subject: Re: [Swansea] Swansea Place of Marriage > Hello,Ann, > I found the following in LOUGHOR :- > POST OFFICE,STATION ROAD > BENJ HOWELL 56 GROCER/SUBPOSTMASTER B ? 3. Hi Lynda: Greetings from the Land o' the Maple Leaf! I have a branch of a Swansea WATKINS family which was compiled by the late Dave Thomas, was a member of the Glamorgan Rootsweb list. I have a link by marriage to the family. I have just had a look to see if any of the names you list are listed. Unfortunately they are not. Dave traced his branch back to 1792. He wrote: The St. Mary's vestry minute book shows that a property at Frog Street was being rented by one Watkins THOMAS in 1792, this was probably the grandfather of Thomas WATKINS who was still using the Welsh patronymic naming system. Thomas' father is recorded as being John THOMAS a publican. I can't make head nor tail of the patronymic naming system but just wonder if that is why you can't find your ancestor. Perhaps you should be looking for a DAVID or DAVIES/DAVIS surname?? I'm afraid I may be muddying the waters even more <grin>. Hope you find them. Good luck with your research. 3. I think it is time to remind everyone that sending "unsubscribe" to the list will NOT get you unsubbed. Here is the address to use: list name-L/D-request@rootsweb.com Put the exact list name where I have "list name." Put either L or D (depending on your type of subscription) in next. The "request" is what gives the computer the command to see what to do next. Don't put anything in the subject line and only "unsubscribe" (without the quotes) in the body of your message. You can also go the the list's website and unsub. You can find it at the Rootsweb List Index site: http://lists.rootsweb.com If you have problems write me OFF list and I'll only be too happy to help you. Btw, when you join new lists, you should print out the welcome message because all this info is in them. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, listowner http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002

    2. Tom That is my problem they were I believe in Swansea about 1890 -1893 and in Blaenllechau in 1901 Their names were Howell and Margaret Davies[nee Williams]but I could not find them in 1891 census which would tell me I hoped the area they were living in. Was at FRC London on 9th May and could not find them there either.Do you by any chance have access to a 1891 census for Swansea and be willing to look and see if you can locate them.If you do not have this access do you know of anyone who might be able to help me.Or any ideas which might help. All the best Alun.

    1. Re: [Swansea] Where is ST John's
    2. Hi Mary, St Johns is an area in the high street of Swansea, now it's known as St Mathews, That aside the info you seek is as follows........ Out of High street train station turn right St Mathews "St Johns" is around 100yards up the road on the left hand side. continue up high street to traffic lights turn right to next lights "10 Yards" turn left onto Llangefelach road travel around 1 mile to Pentrestyll this begins just after railway bridge with Maggie Dicks "pub" on the right As for Rhossilli this is in the Gower and is at the far end. which will take sometime to get to as you have to negotiate long narrow winding lanes. but is well worth the time as it is a beautiful part of the gower. Hope this helps Brian Davies Swansea
