Hi to you all. Trying to find ways to crumble a 15 yr old brick wall. Would appreciate a look up for the following family group, or any member of it. The boy is whom I am interested in. I am hoping he turns out to be Thomas Morgan WILLIAMS who was born in Bristol in 1873 to Mary WILLIAMS, no father mentioned. In 1881 Census 9 Scyborfach St, Swansea Town. Glam Film 1342292, Refg RG11, Piece 5360, Folio127, Page 40. I am hoping Mary is Thomas's grandmother, our Thomas M lived in Bristol and worked at Temple Meads station, spoke with a Welsh accent, he was my husbands Grandfather. Family story is, he was taken in by somebody, but never officially adopted, legal adoption hadn't started this far back. This is the only sure way to ensure they were indeed married and confirm the name of Evan's father. The rest should be plain sailing (probably not !) You need to ascertain Evan's date of birth. Without this you could spend ages chasing someone who may have been younger than his wife and did not therefore appear on the 1881 census. Cheers Peter
Hi Folks, This is my first visit to your list. First may I apologies for being verbose, but there is no simple way of explaining my problem. I am seeking EVAN OWEN PRICE I know that he married SARAH JANE SAVAGE born 1880 (calculated from 1881 Census) in Clarbeston, Pembroke , Wales. They had to my knowledge only one son - REGINALD SAVAGE PRICE born 24/3/1907 in Teglum, Robeston Wathen, Pembroke. Reginald's birth certificate, providing the above details. A search of the 1881 Census found only one EVAN PRICE aged 6, who was living in ST James St, Narberth, with his grandmother - MARY HARRIES and Great Grandfather - THOMAS MORGAN On the assumption that this was my Evan, I commissioned a PRO search for his birth certificate (I live on a tiny dot in the Mediterranean, and cannot do my own searches), but to no avail. Either his stated age (at census) is way out or he was not born in Narberth or Pembroke come to that. I have no knowledge as to the whereabouts of EVAN'S mother or father at the time of the 1881 census! They were not in Pembroke as far as I can ascertain! It has been suggested to me that they may have strayed into Swansea? Hence I am seeking any help you may be able to offer Regards from Gozo Les Buckle
Hello, This is my first posting to the list. My interest is in David BOWEN, a furnace man, from Swansea, who married Alice SELF in 1886. They had a son, William Cyril BOWEN born Swansea 1887. In the 1891 Census for Burry Port area, Carmarthenshire, William Cyril BOWEN, aged 3, is listed as a lodger at the home of my great-grandparents, David and Mary DAVIES (nee THOMAS), in Hands Row, Dyfatty. Where are his parents, David and Alice BOWEN? Any help re this couple would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Cynthia Collison

2c. VIRUSES, WORMS, AND HOAXES. Educate yourself about viruses and worms because they do not go away. They are a constant threat and could destroy your valuable genealogical material. You will not receive any of these varmints from RootsWeb's mailing lists because all posts to them must be in plain text and they can not contain attachments, but you might be fooled into thinking so by some of these nasty critters that can forge (spoof) the "From" address. One of my g grandfathers has given me a lot of problems, but I think I may be getting somewhere at last. From his children's birth certifcates and the 1891 / 1901 censuses, I've found out that: his name was was John Davies, sometimes given as David John Davies; his birth year was either 1853 or 1854, probably the latter; his probable place of birth was Swansea as on the 1891 Census (not Clovelly, his wife's birthplace, as stated on the 1901 Milford Haven Census); he was a "marine fireman" in Swansea in 1882, when he lived at 81 Watkin St., and when his first son, Matthew John, was born; he was a "steam tug engine driver" in Swansea in 1890, when he lived at 76 Fuel Rd. (renamed Pentreguinea Rd. by 1891), St.Thomas, when his first daughter, Ada Gertrude, was born. Between April 1891 (Census) and October 1892 (birth of my grandmother) the family moved to Milford Haven. I can't find his marriage to Mary Jewell on the GRO Index, but I know from Clovelly parish records that they didn't marry there. Neither can I find a likely Mary Jewell or Mary Davies on the 1881 Census, though the likeliest John Davies is living at Pillar Treboeth, Penderry, in 1881. If so, his father was Matthew, a coalminer, (which fits with his son's name), and he was then a "Rollerman (Tin)". So it seems that between April 1881 (Census) and April 1882 (birth of first son), he got married (or just began to live with) Mary Jewell, changed his job, and moved into the Mount Pleasant area of Swansea. Can anyone add any background details to this (eg, the tinplate works where he might have been working, the tug firm he might have worked for), or suggest likely further lines of enquiry? I'd particularly like to find out whether he did make an honest woman of Mary (especially as some of my elderly aunts are getting very nervous and touchy about this), not least because that should confirm or reject my hypothesis about his 1881 Penderry parents. And what is the meaning of the address "Pillar Treboeth"? Barry Johnson Monmouthshire.
Hi Tom, Thanks for trying anyway I will have to look further. Hello,Ann, The only place I know other than Middleton Place which has the 1861 Swansea census is the West Glamorgan RO in Swansea. I wish I could get hold of it myself. Sorry, Tom
I have refrained from sending this but since one of my lists has fallen victim to this stupid hoax, I am going to waste my time and your time issuing a warning. The Jdbgmgr hoax is now going around and slowly by slowly seems like many of the lists I am on have been victimized by naive people thinking they are doing everyone a favor. This is how it works...you get a message from someone saying if you have this particular file on your computer (has a teddy bear icon) you not only should delete the file but send this message to everyone in your address book because you have a virus and now you have passed it on to everyone else. So, the innocent person then sends it to everyone in their address book, including mailing lists. And people who really don't know anything about computers, delete the file and send the message on. Besides clogging up cyberspace with all these useless harmful messages, the file you delete is a legitimate Windows file. Okay, here is a site that will explain it in a technical manner: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/jdbgmgr.exe.file.hoax.html At the listowner of many lists, I have always felt it was important for anyone using a computer to be knowledgeable about viruses, worms and hoaxes and not only allowed warnings and discussions about them on the list, but sent out many warnings, like this, myself. Now, I will ask all of you to please check with me first OFF LIST, about any virus warning you want to send to the list, otherwise you risk losing your right to post to the list. 2nd point...please don't believe these posts, even if they are from a friend or relative without checking them out first. Now, if you can't find anything about them on the internet, write to the list and ask us about them. (but don't send the warning) I have no problems about discussing this matter on list. Thanks for any info you can share. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, listowner http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002
To Brian Davies Thank you so much for this information. It would have taken me for ever to discover the 1851 stuff. Someone else has told me that there are NURSEs in Cardiff as well, so they seen to have got around a bit since 1851. I've been in the doldrums with this family for months (got fed up trying to find my nains grandparents, Elizabeth and John Thomas in Llanelli) but now I feel spurred into action. Thanks again Denise

Hello Listers I've just subscribed to this list so I thought I would post my interests. I'm researching the NURSE family tree. My nain was Elizabeth Annie NURSE, b. Llanelli 1900, but her ancestors seem to have worked their way west through towns in South Wales. I have found some on the 1881 census living in Swansea and Newport. Denise Berkshire
