    3. Hi I have a MARY ANN BOWDEN (born c 1848) marring a MR DRYSDALE (unknown)! MARY has a brother SAMUEL (born c 1801) who marries a SARAH JONES (born C 1833). I have always found this relationship odd, but on the census it said SAMUEL BOWDEN (head) SARAH BOWDEN (wife) and MARY DRYSDALE (widow) sister!! Just because it mentioned DRYSDALE I thought it may help! 1. [Swansea] Help/Advice required, please.
    2. Hi, folks, My name is Ron Hamilton and I have a relative who died in Swansea in 1866. ROGER LEEMING, died at the age of 33 years. He was drowned in an incident in LANGLAND BAY, SWANSEA. He died on Friday 24th August, 1866 at about 11.30am. He was buried on the following Monday. I presume, somewhere in Swansea. I am looking to try and trace any form of newspaper report that might have covered this drowning. Roger was a Yorkshire man and employed as a groom. He was working for a man called COFFIN who resided in Swansea. Roger and his family were living at NEWTON the MUMBLES at this time. Hopefully, if such a report exists it might give where he was buried. Would anyone have any idea where I might enquire about the records for the inquest that I presume would have been carried out being the death was sudden. TIA. Ron.

    3. Yeh Phil - T.C.M. Remember me? I got all excited when I saw your Roderick message on the Swansea list. I was going to put this new chap in touch with you, then found out it WAS you! I haven't been on the Glam list for ages but still get the odd message from the Swansea one. Remember all the fuss when it first came into being? The Glam-listers were up in arms. I have 'moved on' to Kent* - windmills and clay pipe makers - and am also haunting Bury, Lancashire where I am trying to find the birth of my g-grandmother. Her actual birth date is on her MI but not in the civil register. Bah! *lots more pilots based in Dover Hope you are keeping well and happy and still gardening. Did you ever get another Samoyed dog? Become t-total? I remember you used to have psychic feelings/connections/leanings? Have you seen John Edward's program, Crossing Over? I understand it is on Sky TV over there. Do have a look if you get the chance. He is a psychic medium. Got me convinced. We have my husband's cousin, from Denbigh, N. Wales, staying with us at the moment. My Welsh husband has spent most[?] of her visit watching the World Cup! All for now. Keep that Welsh flag flying. Best wishes, Diana-in-Canada

    1. [Swansea] New lister's interests
    2. Hi All I have just found this list covering Swansea and am posting my interests in the area. The main one being - The surname RODERICK or RHYDDERCH as it was before it got anglised. My GGGG Grandfather Israel RHYDDERCH a shipwright and blockmaker was born in Swansea 31st March 1796 and Baptised 4th April 1796 at Swansea St.Marys. He moved around quite a lot over the years, Bristol, Gloucester, Cardiff and died 17th February 1883 at the Workhouse at St Thomas Swansea. I know that his father was William RHYDDERCH a carpenter and have made an assumption from the parish records of Swansea St Mary's that Israel's mother was a Mary WILLIAMS. As on 26th October 1784 there is an entry for a marriage between William RHYDDERCH and Mary WILLIAMS. There seem to have been RODERICKS in Swansea for many years prior to this as entries in the account book for the borough of Swansea 1640-1660 state- April 1646 Paid to David Retherech 17 daies work on the Towne halle 17 shillings. He was working with lathes nails lyme creasts and rafters. May 1646. Paid David Rytherch for mending Towne halle 10 shillings. Burgussis at May David Rytherch and John Rytherch. Feb 1657 Paid David Roderick for mending the Towne Halle. Also interested in the Pilots who worked the Channel from any port along it from Swansea to Gloucester. Including Cardiff and Bristol. Regards Phil Roderick (aka T.C.M.)

    3. Since I am still getting between 4 to 10 virus messages per day, I assume some of you are still being plagued so think it is good to repeat this message from today's Rootsweb Review. Good info and links to bookmark. KLEZ IT, PLEASE. Educate yourself about viruses and worms because they do not go away. They are a constant threat and could destroy your valuable genealogical files. The current attack of the Klez worm, which forges the "from address" is fooling many RootsWeb Review readers, but this worm is NOT coming from RootsWeb's mailing lists or your editor. It is being sent to you privately by an infected computer (often without the owner's knowledge), with a stolen "From" e-mail address. It uses all sorts of subjects lines, which Klez also filches. Before you accuse someone of sending you the Klez worm, be sure you know how to read the e-mail header codes. http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/listadmins/headersfull.html And, before you throw the proverbial stone, be sure your own computer is clean. 1. [Swansea] Was your ancestor a WWI POW of the Welsh Regiment
    2. Edwards, Stephen
    3. Hello, I am trying to trace my grandfather's time as a POW in WWI. He was John Bodycombe who was born in Llansamlet in 1889. He was a member of the 9th Battalion of the Welsh Regiment taken prisoner on 30th May 1918. The List of British Officers taken prisoner in the various Theatres of War between August 1914 and November 1918, compiled in 1919 by the military agents Cox and Co., the following are listed as POWs of the 9th Battalion of the Welsh Regiment: Missing Repatriated Lt. E. Emblem 23/03/1918 29/11/1918 2/Lt. H. W. Thompson 25/03/1918 13/12/1918 Major E. W. Broakes 30/05/1918 -/12/1918 Capt. T. Sugrue 30/05/1918 01/01/1919 Capt. D. H. Thomas 30/05/1918 01/01/1919 Lieut. F. M. St. H. Evans 30/05/1918 14/12/1918 2/Lt. J. Bodycombe 30/05/1918 16/01/1919 2/Lt. J. Evans 30/05/1918 17/12/1918 2/Lt. T. E. Noble 30/05/1918 31/12/1918 2/Lt. G. Williams 30/05/1918 30/12/1918 My grandfather's service record was "weeded" in 1934, and so there is no report on his time as a POW. I would be interested in hearing from anyone researching any of the above named soldiers, particularly relating to their time as a POW. Regards Stephen Edwards

No messages sent are expected to be lost, but the lists will be down for a while when it happens. PLEASE don't post "why aren't I getting mail" during that time . . . you will when it comes back up, and you don't want half of it to be everyone on the list asking why aren't they getting mail.
