    3. Hi Ken I looked at Trafalgar Terrace, Swansea on the 1891 census today and could not see any JENKS. The ref. is RG12/4478, enumeration districts 7 and 8 on fiche 1 of the piece. At no. 53, which must have been quite a large house, the head of household was Alex F AUSTIN, Ship Builder, b Swansea, Glam. There were a number of residents - I didn't count but about 10 or 12 - including a visitor, J T KEAT, married, 52, born Port Isaac, Cornwall, who I took note of because that was where my Swansea ancestors came from, though I can't connect her as yet. I would hope that his name might turn up in 1891 Kelly's Directory, with an alternative address, if he remained a lodging house keeper. Trafalgar Terrace still stands. Best wishes Jeff ----- Original Message ----- From: KJ enks_1 <KJenks1@Rochester.rr.com> To: <WLS-SWANSEA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 03, 2002 3:31 AM Subject: [Swansea] 1891Census Lookup > Hi List, > > Could SKS do a lookup for me on the 1891 Census. > > I am looking for Thomas JENKS-Head age 79 > Margaret JENKS-Wife age 69 > Nellie JENKS-Granddaughter age 16 > > The 1881 Census had them living in Swansea Town, Glamorgan, Wales, at 53 Trafalger Terr.. > Thomas's Occupation was Lodging House Keeper. > > Any information would be Greatly Appreciated. > Thank you in advance. > > Kenneth R. 3. Hi Bernard I looked at 1891 Census today. Could not find Convent Terrace, Swansea, as it was not in the street index, but looked closely at Convent Street. They were quite small dwellings, with only 4 rooms occupied. No. 34 was David JONES, 48, General Labourer, wife Sarah 48, daughter Sarah A 16 and brother William 37, Haulier, Copper Works. All were born Swansea. RG12/4480 Enumeration District 23 on fiche 3 of the Piece. There was no TOY/TOI in Convent Street. In the Convent itself, in the 'marital state' column, for all the nuns there was an entry running up the page 'Members of the Community'. Sorry you have yet another setback in your quest. 3. No virus message this time! I have seen on many of my lists, message posted to the list where the poster is having a problem with their subscription to the list. Either they want to change to digest, or want to unsub. They send a message to the list saying nothing else other than "unsubscribe". Well that won't get them unsubbed because the computer will only unsub those who include "request" in their address. This will work for only list you are on. If you are on the NY-Irish L list, for instance, just send your email to: NY-Irish-L-Request@ rootsweb.com Put "unsubscribe" in your subject and body. Of course, if you get digest form, substitute the L with a D. Did you know that Rootsweb has a website for every list where you can sub, unsub, write the listowner and view the archives of the list? Go to: http://lists.rootsweb.com One more thing. If you are experiencing problems with your list, don't write to the list, write to the listowner. If you don't know who the listowner is, just substitute "admin" for the L/D and your email will go directly to the listowner. For the NY-Irish list the email address would be: NY-Irish-admin@rootsweb.com Thanks for you continuing cooperation. -- Pat Connors, currently in Albany NY, listowner http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free. 3. Hi The Times seems to have got the name wrong. In two major reports in the 'Cambrian' newspaper in consecutive weeks in May 1881 the name of the accused is clearly MAZEY, including in a headline. This on the authority of one of the volunteer team indexing the 'Cambrian' at Swansea library. Please let me know if a full copy of the lengthy reports is wanted. 3. By chance I can give you the family at no. 91 Watkin Street. If you search for one of them - eg Pascoe, an unusual forename - then when you find them go for the 'neighbours' button. I don't have 1881 census and have only used it in archives, so am not very familiar with it. I think there is also a Help button.
