Eve and I plan to spend the week commencing 14th May in The County and to do some 'hands-on' research into her grandmother's family background. Evelyn Marion OWEN, youngest daughter of Hugh Charles OWEN and Elizabeth REES, was born 24.09.1870 in Llanwnda, where they are to be found in both 1871 and 1881 census returns. Elizabeth disappears from the scene early or mid 1880's - it is she who interests us particularly; Hugh remarried (Martha Roberts LEWIS) Q4 1890, then lived on until 1909. Although much of this Owen family's history revolves around Orielton, we prefer to base our stay in or around Goodwick/Llanwnda, where we hope to find some (comfortable and not too expensive) self catering accommodation. Just us two and the dog (exceedingly well behaved Border Collie), so small is fine. Any recommendations from list members would be most gratefully appreciated. Many thanks ~ in anticipation. Here's a suggestion - The Ivybridge Hotel. It is walking distance from Goodwick ferry terminal and very nice. Look at http://www.ivybridge.cwc.net/ for details. My brother and I stayed there a while ago while we were doing some research into our OWEN line. I have an ancestor Hugh OWEN though the middle name is probably E..? He was my grandfather's (William James OWEN) brother and they were born in Lower Town, Fishguard. Do you have any other information on your Hugh's family? I would be interested to share my meagre notes.
