Hello, I am a newcomer to the Pembrokeshire list. My interest is in a HANCOCK family from Camrose. My Gt Grandfather, George Hancock (b.1851), was the son of Rebecca Hancock (b.1829), unmarried, who at the time of George's birth was living with her widowed mother, Hannah Hancock, at Pelcomb Bridge. An 8 year old grand-daughter of Hannah's, Hester Owen, was there at the same time. George was still with his grandmother in 1861, but I can find no further record of Rebecca in Wales or England. I think, but have not confirmed, that Hannah was the Hannah Harbet (?) (b. about 1790) who married Philip Hancock in Camrose in 1811. Philip died before 1841 (possibly Camrose, 1834). Besides Rebecca, other possible children of Philip and Hannah are Elizabeth (b.1825), James (b.1823), Mary (b.1822), Thomas (b.1815) , all at Camrose. I would value any help confirming this family and linking it to the other Hancocks of Camrose. I am particularly interested in what happened to Rebecca. Ian Hancock -- Ian Hancock Northumberland

Rebecca aged 12 appears to be a servant in Haverfordwest St Martin. The following Hancocks all have the same reference (HO107/1449/3, folio 46, page 10) in Camrose: Charles, 7 Elizabeth, 65, Ind. Hannah, 50, Ind. Martha, 9 Mary, 25 Peter, 25, Butcher Philip, 6 Thomas, 3mo. A James Hancock aged 20 and an Eliza Hancock aged 15 were working as servants together elsewhere (HO107/1449/3, folio 45, page 8) in Camrose. There were no other Hancocks in Camrose. A 17 year old Ann was working in Haverfordwest St. Martin as a servant. In 1891 Charles was living at Sardis, Burton parish, Mary was a widow at The Buildings, Camrose, Philip was at Pelcomb Bridge (Hamlet of St Martin, Haverfordwest). A William Hancock aged 42, born Camrose, was living at Robleston, Camrose. Another William Hancock aged 57 was working as a steward at Picton Castle, Slebech. A Peter Hancock aged 16, born Swansea was working at Elliots Hill, Camrose - could he have been the son of Peter the butcher above? Perhaps that family moved to Swansea. If you would like more details about their families let me know. Gerry Lewis
