Charles Your message caught my eye, because during my research I had come across the name Voyle as the surname of the husband of one of my family, and I had thought at the time that it was quite unusual. The period of time of my search was more than 100 years later than your dates. However, I did a quick surname search on the 1901 census for England and Wales and thought the following statistics might be of interest to you. Voyle - 211 entries. 75% of the entries were born and lived in South Wales - Pembrokeshire, Carmathanshire, Glamorgan and Monmouth. This is consistant with a lot of families where during the 1800s families migrated east to work in the coal mines and associated industries in Glamorgan and Monmouth. Voyles - 1 entry in London Voils - 7 entries in Birmingham Given the limited number of entries it is probable to assume that they are all connected, if distantly, in some way or another, so there may be links with your family. Finally the index to the 1901 census identifes name, age, occupation etc. and I thought the following were interesting, although I am not certain what all the occupations are exactly. Decimus Voyle aged 20 living in Kent occupation - Third Writer Catherine Voyle aged 40 living in Aberdare occupation - Confectionery Ship Keeper (I would guess that "Ship" should read "shop", but who knows) Decimus Voyle aged 55 living in Cheltenham occupation - Cycle Agent Daniel Voyle aged 31 living in Cockett occupation - Banker On Top Of Colliery (I suspect that this has absolutely nothing to do with the financial world!) Francis Voyle aged 55 living in St Mary Tenby In Liberty Occupation - Lieut Colonel Infantry Indian Army I hope you find this interesting.
