Hello Janetann Davies. Hope you'll forgive me for diving in . . . In your reply to Barry Francis re his Howell family of Nantgwyn Farm, you indicate you have connections in Llanfairnantygof parish. I wonder if you have ever come across my 2ggrandfather, who was of that parish at the time of his marriage in 1818 at Henry's Moat church to Sarah Phillips of Farthings Hook. His name was uncommon for N Pembs, so you may recall it if you saw it whilst searching for your own family. He was James McLaren, b.Scotland (possibly Scone, Perthshire) and a steward, aged c27, at the time of the marriage. I assume he was employed on the Trecwn estate but I know not his parents' names, nor anything of his origins - and of course would dearly like to. After marriage, he soon turned to farming and is to be found, successively, at farms at Ambleston, New Moat, Rosemarket and Steynton parishes in the county. He was buried in Steynton churchyard in 1852, aged 61. He had 12 children, one of whom - another James, who also had 12 children and also farmed in Pembs, before eventually settling in Cardiganshire - was my paternal grandmother's father. The elder James appears to have emigrated to Pembs alone - his parents are not shown as witnesses to his marriage and I assume they remained in Scotland. His origins have long eluded me, so any information on his early life I would welcome gratefully. Thank you in anticipation, David Lloyd Rugby UK
