    3. Hello Phyllis "Pembroke people" by Richard Rose has this extract:- "Mose and Samuel Levi, who may have originated in Frankfurt, came to Haverfordwest in the 18th century. They became Christians and adopted the surname of Phillips ........... In 1778 Samuel Levi Phillips was described as a jeweller. It may be just a coincidence of names but I query whether or not Samuel Levi, Silversmith, of Pembroke may have been a relative of Moses and Samuel of Haverfordwest ...." From the entry under Samuel Levi, Silversmith it seems that this is "yours". Have you seen the entry? It mostly gives details from the two wills which you already have. I developed an interest in these and have a copy of the will of Samuel Levi Phillips - It is very unclear and I am still trying to decipher it. If you think we could exchange any info you can get back to me direct if you like. 3. Dear Pat, You've brought up some interesting thoughts here. Wonder if this has anything to do with the Phillips/Philipps of the banking family whose bank went "bust" in the mid 1800's. Maybe the Levis adopted the name because it was already well known. Some of my ancestors lost money here and I have some random records of the times, but I can't readily put my hands on them. I was prompted to look in Major Jones article on the Morris banking family of Carmarthenshire, for any connecting clues....and noted "The late Francis Green who had made a study of early banks in West Wales....." The reference given for Morris and the Carm. Bank is West Wales Historical Records VI, 144, so I wonder if this refers just to Morris, or to the study referred to. Francis Green wrote many interesting articles....do you or any other Lister know if there is a work on his study of banks? If there is one, it might clear up any confusion between the Levi and Levi-Phillips families.
