    1. Re: [WLS-PEMBROKESHIRE] Pembrokeshire Belt families
    2. Hi Kevin I have the following to add to the information from the 1841 Census already supplied to you by Gerry. The IGI 1992 on microfiche shows the baptism at Carew of two of the children listed 29 Sept 1843 William Belt 31 May 1846 Thomas Belt In both cases the parents are James Belt/Phoebe and not the John Belt which you had expected. The IGI also shows their marriage at Carew 11 Nov 1843 James Belt = Phoebe Ormond Looking at the baptism of their first child it would seem that the minister assumed that they were already married but the original parish register entry ought to be checked to verify this. On the 1841 Census Index there are the following entries in Carew parish which may interest you PRO Ref. HO107 Piece 1448 Book 4 Folio 24 Page 8 Phoebe Ormond, 20, F. S., Y PRO Ref. HO107 Piece 1448 Book 4 Folio 24 Page 9 James Belt, 24, Lab., Y Esther Ormond, 12, F.S., Y NB F.S. = Female Servant; Lab = Labourer; Y = answer to question "Born in County?" Once again in this case it would be worth looking at the census to establish whether, with the same folio number and consecutive page numbers they are all working at the same address. If so then it would appear that Phoebe and Esther are sisters. There are no baptisms for any of them on the IGI for Pembrokeshire which may mean that either they all came from Loveston whose register entries do not appear on the IGI or they were nonconformists and the registers do not survive. If you are certain that it is John Belt for whom you are searching then the following may be of interest PRO Ref. HO 107 Piece 2476 Folio 387 Page 5 Schedule No. 19 Pembroke Ferry John Belt, Head, Mar, 39, Shipwright H M Dockyd, born Pembroke St. Mary's Margaret Belt, Wife, Mar, 34, - , born Pembroke St. Mary's Allen Belt, Son, - , 3, - , born Pembroke St. Mary's Happy hunting and good luck with your future researching Bye for now Joy
