Dear Deirdre, It was not usual with Welsh naming......I found a record for a Posthumous Rhydderch which I thought an awful mouthful. A child was often called Posthumous, naturally, when he was born after his father had died.....maybe it could apply if the mother died in childbirth also....but I've only found records which relate to the child having a dead father. Dear Carol and Bettye Thanks so much for your help.We have spent so much time wondering HOW anyone could call a child Posthumerous without wondering WHY. So with your information in mind and knowing James' father was also James, I began checking back through records recently sent by a cousin which I hadn't had time to look at thoroughly, and lo and behold there he was. James P Lawson born Feb 1816 - Father James Lawson died June 1815! So thank you both for helping to clear up one of our little mysteries.
