    3. I am researching the Surname GENTLE only from the IGI and 1881 C have I been able to find any info. James GENTLE was born c1823 in Amroth but who his parents were and where they came from I would like to find out. Can any one help me please ? Brian Hancock

    3. Dear Brian, Following on Ann's reply, the Gentle surname does not appear in the 1813-37 Pembrokeshire marriages, or in the pre-1813 index for Amroth. It looks as if James Gentle's father might have been from outside the county. Perhaps you might find the name in nearby Carmarthenshire. Checking all the Gentle entries on the 1881 census CD would indicate where the name was most prominent. I don't have birth information, unfortunately, and if the Listers can't help you, perhaps you'd consider asking Pembrokeshire Records Office at Haverfordwest to check the Amroth parish register for a baptism.
