Dear List This is somewhat tangential but I wonder if the tenant mentioned, Henry Palmer of Carew, may be a relative of Ashley John Roch Palmer, who published a Member's Birth Brief with tree in the second Dyfed FHS Journal, Volume 2, page 164. Some of his antecedents were baptised at Carew and include Phelps of Creswell, Yerbeston and Begelly. I am attempting to find "my" Henry Phelps, baptised Carew 1802, son of Henry and Mary Phelps, into these families. Dear Megan, Henry Palmer had been a prosperous planter in Jamaica, although he was a native of Carew. (If we mislay an ancestor of two, they could have perhaps toddled off to the West Indies). His claim to fame is said to be cutting asparagus growing in the open at Gelliswick on Christmas Day 1818. He is said to have died on 16 August 1849 at age 72. His family continued at Gelliswick for some time thereafter. At Carew there was an Allen Palmer married Hannah Parcell in 1767, George Palmer 1790 m. Elizabeth Llewelyn and James Palmer in 1783 married Mary Davies. Other Palmer males married at Tenby and various other places in this particular Hundred. There is a very large number of Palmer and Parcell ladies who married here too. There is a connection.....but I don't know what it is...except honour and trust.... between the Phelps whom I'm interest in and the Parsell/Parcell family. There is a marriage between Henry Parcell and Elizabeth Phelps at Amroth in 1809. (And for Rose, whose mailbox is always full when I send anything lately, one of our Richard Rowes married Rebecca Palmer at Carew in 1773). The volume you mention, Megan, is before my time. I wonder if there is a follow-up article somewhere, or perhaps a pedigree lodged with the Dyfed FH Society, or The National Library. That tree sounds awfully interesting. Bettye K. PS.Is it as hot in your suburb as it is in mine? 40 deg.
