I'm just nearing the end of indexing Hanes Eglwys Annibynnol Esgairdawe, [History of Esgairdawe Independent Church] Mary E Williams, 1992, and from my observations of where members lived relative to the chapel itself it has occurred to me to risk stating the obvious. In this case the chapel is sited very near to 3 parish borders, Pencarreg, Caio and Llansawel. It is actually just in Pencarreg parish, but I'm not totally clear whether the new burial ground across the road isn't in Caio parish. No matter, my point is, if one just searched nonconformist registers of chapels which are *within* the parish our ancestors lived in then we may not find them if they attended a chapel in an adjoining parish. My advice then is to use a map to pinpoint the farm or village concerned and then look around to see what chapels are within a given distance, I suggest 2 or 3 miles as a starter but be prepared for much greater distances in circumstances where particular denomination nonconformist chapels were few and far between. And county borders needn't be a barrier here either. I know, it would be nice if a few more of our respective target chapels had some extant registers to look at :-( Gareth List Administrator for Dyfed, CGN & PEM. tirbach@clara.co.uk Lookup Exchange http://home.clara.net/tirbach/lookup.html Help Page http://home.clara.net/tirbach/hicks.html
