On a personal note for those of you who just watched Land of Dreams on BBC2 coming from St Davids and the life of Derek Rees. I have to mention with pride that Derek is my brother. For others of you who may know that I am at present transcribing the 1871 Pembrokeshire Census, I thought you might enjoy a few snippets I have come across recently. My first set of triplets in Llanstadwell, the Burgess family, Thomas, John and Isobel Aged 2. In Amroth James & John Beynon, two brothers 57 & 52 years old, both sadly deaf and dumb from birth. In Llandissilio Martha Griffiths Age 28 a single servant on a farm, leaving for America. And finally for now in Marros, Hannah Davies and her son David aged 11. Hannahs occupation says deserted by her husband so now a pauper and to top it all she says her son is an Idiot. I do not think she was very happy on the day the enumerator called! Should I come across more snippets I think you might find interesting as I type my way through the parishes of Pembrokeshire and surrounding Carmarthenshire and Cardigan borders I will post them and hope you too will enjoy them as I do. -------------------------------------------------------- Sylvia Birch sylvia@cenquest.co.uk PEMBROKESHIRE Census on Line www.cenquest.co.uk
