Hello Jan, Firstly St Dogmells(Dogmaels modern spelling) and St Dogwells: yes, they are different parishes in Pembrokeshire. St Dogmaels is across the river from Cardigan Town and has the larger population. It produced a lot of seafarers, many of whom migrated to Cardiff and Newport(Mon) in the 19th century. St Dogwells is midway between Haverfordwest and Fishguard - it is a bit closer to Maenclochog, but neither is next door. You need a map of the area - I hope you have one. Secondly the marriages: have you the full details? Was Mary or Ann's age given? What was David Williams' occupation? Who was Ann's father? I have the 1841 census for St Dogmaels and it contains 40 Mary Williams, some 10 of whom were of marriageable age by 1848. However, you need to establish whether you are looking in St Dogmells or St Dogwells. Morris NICHOLAS, born c. 1789, married Elizabeth VAUGHAN in Maenchlochog in 1821. Morris also married Mary DAVIES in 1836. 2. Elizabeth VAUGHAN, died c. 1834, was the daughter of William VAUGHAN and Mary THOMAS and was the youngest of 11 children. 3. Mary THOMAS was the daughter of Henry THOMAS and Ann ? and was the eldest of seven children. 4. James NICHOLAS (son of Morris and Elizabeth) married Mary WILLIAMS (daughter of David WILLIAMS) in Cardiff in 1848 - Mary was born in St. Dogmaels or St. Dogwells (is this a misspelling or are there two places with these names?). After Mary died James then married Ann WILLIAMS (sister, cousin?) also from St. Dogmaels or St. Dogwells. I have 1851 census onwards for James and his family in Cardiff.. Can anyone help me with any further information please? Thankyou.
