Hi Libby It rather looks as though your Anne Brinn was a 'naughty' girl more than once! I have extracted the following from the IGI all baptised at Carew 19 Apr 1857 Margaret Parent Anne Brinn 11 Jun 1860 Lydia " " 1 May 1864 John " " 11 Jun 1870 Amelia " " Only by checking the actual entries in the parish register will you establish whether she was shown as a 'single woman'. Pembrokeshire Record Office - Archives@pembrokeshire.gov.uk Neither Lydia or Amelia appear with Anne on any Census. They may have died shortly after their baptism or have been taken in by their respective fathers under their surnames. Once again a check of the burials register for Carew could provide the answer or you could check FreeBMD or 1837online to see if a Death Certificate was issused for them. Margaret and John did both survive and are listed in the 1881 Census as follows Dwelling: Mutton Hill Census Place: Cosheston, Pembroke, Wales Source: FHL Film 1342303 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 5408 Folio 39 Page 5 Marr Age Sex Birthplace Mark GRIFFITHS M 23 M Nash, Pembroke, Wales Rel: Head Occ: General Labourer Margaret GRIFFITHS M 24 F Carew, Pembroke, Wales Rel: Wife Occ: Laborers Wife Anne Jane GRIFFITHS 2 m F Cosheston, Pembroke, Wales Rel: Daur John BRINN U 20 M Carew, Pembroke, Wales Rel: Brother In Law Occ: Dock Yard Laborer You have managed to find Anne in Carew in 1871 but here is her entry in 1861as requested 1861 Census PRO Ref. Hi Joy, What a plethora of information you have given me. I can't thank you enough. It will take me some time to sift through it all and see how it all fits. I did find on the BMD index that there was a Lydia and and Amelia both born June quater 1860. You make reference to these 2 children, however you have given the date of baptism for Amelia as 11 June 1870. Is this a typo. It would appear these were twins born to Anne and as you suspect they may have died soon after their baptism. In order to determine this I will have to send for their certificates. Again, thanks for all this information. Such a helpful list.
