The 6 year old has a 35-39 year old mother? Phebe, described as independent, a sister? Elizabeth aged 4, a brother? Stephen aged 5 (ref HO107/1445/20, Walton West, folio 5 page 5). 1. Re: [WLS-PEM] Looking for RUTTER marriage and baptisms - MilfordHaven - 1820s...
    2. Hi Jim If George was a shipwright he could have served in Plymouth Dockyard. Many men from there transferred to Pembroke Dock after it opened in 1814. So you could also look for a marriage in Stoke Damerel - the parish church for Plymouth Dockyard. This is where I found a marriage for my g.g.grandfather before he appeared on the paybook for Pembroke Dock. Prior to 1814 a dockyard was started, but never completed in Milford, so many men continued living there crossing the Haven by ferry to work in the Pembroke yard. Bye for now Joy

    2. Megan Phelps
    3. Dear Jim Pembrokeshire Marriages 1813 - 1837 doesn't seem to include a Rutter marriage. Eleazar is an unusual name; is it biblical? If you know the circumstances or any information about Geroge Rutter coming to Australia I would be interested to know, as my gg grandfather, James Millard Phelps, came to Sydney from Tenby, Pembrokeshire, at about that time. I am not certain which ship he came on and do not have any information about the motivation for his leaving Tenby. Apart from seeking assistance from the Haverfordwest Record Office I'm afraid I don't have any ideas regarding the baptisms, Regards Megan Phelps Sydney, Australia. 2. JIM CLAY
    3. Hello Gerry Thanks so much for looking, I think you may have moved me several paces forward in my search! I may be able to claim Susannah, Elizabeth and Charlotte - the birth dates fit the ages I have from the 1841 census for Dover, Kent - and George Pyne is probably their brother. His middle name could point me to the christening of Rosamond his mother - the IGI has 2 Rosamond Pyne christenings in Brixham in 1798 and 1800, either of which could be her, although the 1800 is more likely, and the Rutter family had a habit of using mothers' or other close family surnames as middle names for the boys. No marriage record found in Brixham unfortunately. I don't know of the 2 Mary Annes or Matilda, but that's not to say they're not related. Do the records you're quoting hold any other info? Whatever, it seems obvious that these baptism records hold the key to this particular puzzle! Very many thanks again. Best wishes, Jim > > The following RUTTER baptisms took place in Steynton parish (which includes > Milford Haven): > > Mary Anne 1821 > Matilda 1825 > Mary Anne 1825 > Susannah 1826 > George Pyne 1828 > Elizabeth 1830 > Charlotte 1833 > > No burials. > > If Rosamund was from Brixham that's where I'd look for a marriage. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
