The RW lists were all down from last Saturday afternoon until this afternoon, Monday - server problems again. Messages should have been held up by your own isp s and will now drift through as they are re-submitted to RW, if not here by tomorrow then I suggest you re-send Every time this happens (lists go even quieter than usual ) I recommend listers bookmark RW's Help Desk where they eventually get a message up saying what the problem is - or at least that there is a problem http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ Alternatively you can see whether I've put a message on the B-G Forum site http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/ Go to Place Forums then scroll down to Wales and the county pages Gareth Admin for the Rootsweb DYFED, CGN & PEM lists Genuki Wales http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/ Lookup Exchange http://home.clara.net/tirbach/lookup.html Help Page http://home.clara.net/tirbach/hicks.html Cwmgors/Waun http://www.tytwp.plus.com/Waun/Waun.html .

I'm trying to verify my GGrMother Mary Evans (neƩ Mary Evans) who was noted as coming from Loveston. The birth date I have is December 24, 1829. She was reportedly married to John Evans in 1849 (but probably no later than 1850 since she and John were reported married but childless in the 1851 GLAM census), and the marriage may have been in Loveston. I would be eternally grateful if SKS with access to Loveston records would either verify Mary's birth and marriage or (second-best) tell me I'm barking up the wrong tree. Dear Rhiannon, I had a quick look at the marriage index for Castlemartin Hundred and, in view of the fact that John Tucker of St. Twynnells and his wife Ann Hall who married at Stackpole Elidor named their first child James, I wonder if the James Hall who married at Stackpole Elidor in 1802 was her father. Unfortunately I don't have the names of the brides, only the grooms, but Haverfordwest Records Office could give you the bride's name, provide a copy of the parish register entry, and possibly tell you if Ann was baptised to a father named James Hall. An Aaron Tucker married at Pemb. St. Michael in 1799 and a George Tucker married in 1798 at Lamphey......but none around that time in St. Twynnells. Graham, The Goodwick school log is held in the Pembrokeshire Records Office at the Castle in Haverfordwest. I am not sure what dates it covers, but I have in my notes a reminder to look at it, because my mother attended from 1921 to 1929. Myra Heywood, Goodwick
I have been looking at the Admission Registers for Bolt Street Boys School, Newport, Monmouthshire. In it two brothers Cecil Charles and Ronald Raymond SHEPPARD joined the school on 4 Jan 1921, with their previous school being "Goodwick C Pemb". The 'Date of Last Attendance' was 3 months later on 18 Mar 1921, with an entry saying the next school was Fishguard. Please could anyone tell me if Admission Registers still exist for the schools in Goodwick and Fishguard for approx 1913 to 1925. Cecil was born 1910 and would have left school in 1924, aged 14. Ronald was born in 1913 and would have left school in 1927. Regards Graham
Thanks for clearing up those two items for me Gerry. I did make a pigs ear of the translation, didn't I .? Madeleine
Thanks to everyone who generously helped me out with information on Old Oven. Thanks also to Sylvia for the photos. I now have a much better idea of the area. ----- Original Message ----- From: <WLS-PEMBROKESHIRE-D-request@rootsweb.com> To: <WLS-PEMBROKESHIRE-D@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 27, 2005 2:01 PM Subject: WLS-PEMBROKESHIRE-D Digest V05 #27
Hello all. I was given some marvellous help with my enquiries a couple of weeks ago, by Gerry and Bette. It gave me lots to work with. Which I have done and are still doing. George Gowland Golding married Mary Hine in 1846 in Monmouth. I shall try to type the Parish name -I find the writing hard to read-Llantillir Porthirly. His father was William, an Artist. I think that Gerry was right when he thought that William/Ralph were one and the same. What I need to trace is any children of George and Mary. After the wedding information of 1846, I can find nothing of them until Mary's death in Somerset in 1879 There is a big void that could be helped by the 1851, 1861 census. Any directions that can be suggested for me to approach next, please? Thanks again, Madeleine.
Pat, Thank you very much for the look up, very much appreciated. Looks like the marriage certificate is next! Hi Folks, I am hoping that someone will be able to help! I am looking for a Sarah JAMES, born in Llanfyrnach around 1846. She moved to Cardiff around 1870 and became a GGF 2nd wife soon after, I believe she was in service in Cardiff for a gent from ST Dogmaels - a Mr Richards. Does anyone have access to the 1851 census for Llanfyrnach, if so perhaps a kind lister would check to see if Sarah exists on the census and could let me know the names of the family at that time. Thanks! Jon Goddard Worcs, UK
Hi Valerie IF you refer to the Genuki Pem Families project then it's parish based on Genuki - so check the particular parish page you're interested in. Under Genealogy, if no entry then there are none, yet. http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/PEM/indexpars.html Or check the list archives http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/WLS-Pembrokeshire IF you meant something else altogether then please clarify :-) Gareth Admin for the Rootsweb DYFED, CGN & PEM lists Genuki Wales http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/ Lookup Exchange http://home.clara.net/tirbach/lookup.html Help Page http://home.clara.net/tirbach/hicks.html Cwmgors/Waun http://www.tytwp.plus.com/Waun/Waun.html . ----- Original Message ----- From: "Valerie Garton" <vbgarton@optusnet.com.au> To: <WLS-PEMBROKESHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 27, 2005 4:48 AM Subject: [WLS-PEM] Pembroke families > How can I do a search for the above please ? > > Cheers from Valerie in sunny Sydney. > > Researching : > Cork - FITZGIBBON, LEAHY, TARRANT, OAKSHOTT, VAUGHAN > Dublin - CULLODEN, HAYDEN Martha, HAYES, HIGGINSON, HUGHES Patrick & > Henry, MOFFETT > Cambridge - SHICKEL-any spelling > Somerset & Dorset - GRUBB, READ/REID, WHITTLE > Suffolk - ATKINS, BOWLER, BROWN Robert, DAVIE/EY, PARR, SKINNER, > SLATELY > Stafford - WINTERTON, Webb WILLIAMS > Wales - BALLARD, HOOPER, HOWELL, SANDS, YORATH > > > ==== WLS-PEMBROKESHIRE Mailing List ==== > Welsh Family History Archive > http://home.clara.net/wfha/wales/index.htm > > > >
Hello Jenny As I have the "digest" I can see you already have had several replies to this question. However I thought I would add the 1841 census entry for Old Oven in case the family from 1814 are still there. Incidentally in 1841 the previous dwelling is the gasworks - although looking at the map the gasworks is some way away. 1841 census: enum dist 31 Folio 7 page 7 Old Oven Thomas Jenkins 50 Ag Lab N Mary " 50 Y Mary " 3 Y Thomas " 6 Y James " 20 Blacksmith Y William " 18 Jane " 15 Y Ann " 8 Y I hope this helps. If you are happy to receive attachments I can send you a copy of an oldmap of the area showing Old Oven. I have already captured maps of the area of Haverfordwest and surroundings from the old-maps site so It would be easy for me to pass a copy on to you. Hello Sean In the 1851 census the only Sullivan in the workhouse is James Sulliven age 7 place of birth not known. No sign of Cornelius in the Pembroke town/Pembrokw dock area - but there is a Patrick Sullivan aged 12 working as a servant to Thomas Hughes , a dealer and shown as born Ireland. Interestingly Thomas Hughes (born Denbighshire) has a wife Alice aged 52 also born in Ireland - I wonder if there is a Sullivan connection?
